I'm merely pointing out the fact that you somehow feel bad for someone's revenue decreasing when they still make enough money in a single year so that ten generations of their family will never have to work again. Even in a down year. And restructuring contracts defers the money so it quite literally creates more cap space that they can use this year.
The key thing in cap vs cash dept is to remember that NFL owners hate putting actual cash into their teams. The NFL is like an endless cash source for them and having to sink real assets into the team is kind of a bad feel, especially if they don't win after doing that.

They have a threshold they have to spend anyway though and if they ultimately do win, they'll make more money via playoff games and merchandise and what not. It's a revenue sharing system as well so they're rarely putting that much money into it in any event.
Maybe the Texans value Sam in a potential trade with them? Maybe the plan on keeping Sam and having him battling with a rookie. They can easily rework his contract. It is not about money, but poor decision making upstairs and on the coaching staff. Time for a coaching and front office change or 2. Wilson is not the problem.

It was the last season at Shea, the start of the Joe Walton era, and a miserable year where they kept giving you hope but in typical Jets fashion, they crush you to pieces in the end.
