I really hope you are all ready for Sam to be under center again this year...

Figures. The only one of QB scenarios I didn't want.

Honestly have no idea what JD is waiting for with Darnold at this point. Are the pro days really going to make or break whether he wants a QB in the draft?

This is because no one wants to part with a high draft pick for Darnold and can you blame them?

Reasons JD might be waiting on Darnold:

    1. No real market for Darnold has materialized. Everybody is offering 3rd round or later for him.

    2. JD doesn't think there is a QB worthy of being picked on the #2.

    3. JD thinks Darnold will have more trade value later on in the process when the music stops and everybody is seated.

    4. JD is not willing to let go of his only proven QB before he has another one in hand.

    5. JD and Saleh are willing to roll with Darnold this year to protect whoever the rookie is.

    6. JD and Saleh think Darnold might mature in the WCO and become a real QB.

The way that you know that JD is doing a good job this year is that none of us know what the answer is at this point. He's managed to hold his cards close to his vest and even this chaotic media market hasn't been able to pin down the most likely angle of attack for the Jets on the Darnold situation.

Sure. Until the QB we draft is ready. Makes sense since no one will part with more that a 3rd for Darnold. Maybe even no more than a 4th.

Other than Agholor, who did they overpay? The contracts were structured in a way that the team still has enough to pay Watson if they could get him in a trade.

I think either Darnold's market isn't what JD wants or Saleh and Co. think he's the guy for them.

They signed a bunch of people at $10-15M a year.

    None of them were stars.

This is the antithesis of the Patriot Way.

I think it's 50/50 you are right between those two options. Just an indication of how well JD has hidden his intentions this year.

My 50/50 slice of the pie is no market and JD doesn't like the choices at #2.

Restructuring a contract doesn't magically put $60million cash in an owners piggy bank he can turn around and hand to a new guy. Don't confuse cap space with bank account.

    1. This seems likely, JD is known to name his price and not budge much. Having said that I'd gladly take a 3rd for him.

    2. Could be.

    3. Not sure why he would think this. Teams are, in general, becoming less QB needy as FA progresses.

    4. I don't understand this one either. We have our choice of any of the non-Lawrence QB's.

    5. Oof. Not sure why he'd want a rookie learning from a guy who's played so poorly.

    6. Double oof.

I do agree that overall I'm a fan of JD's actions as GM up to this point. Mostly good moves with a couple questionable ones.

He’ll be a good mentor for Fields or Wilson at pick 2

    I think it's 1 or 3.

4 would make sense if we had a lower pick, but with #2 he's sure to get a QB that he wants.

I could be wrong, mind you, but that's what I'm thinking atm.

1 yr/$12.5M. Could be replacement for Watson or just to have a guy you know can play in case Watson holds out.
