JD is probably eying 2022, when his QB situation is settled and his 'new team' has a full year under their belts with a new scheme & HC. Not much sense loading up on FAs before then. He'll probably have the most cap in the league for the 2022 season. THAT's the season we POUNCE!!! He'll fill out the roster with a lot of cheap 1yr deals plus MAYBE one big name. That's my guess. It all depends on Watson.... if JD thinks we're getting him, he'll start spending big THIS year. If not, keep the build going thru the draft, slow and steady.
Ian Rapoport @RapSheet · 3m Former #Lions first-round pick LB Jarrad Davis has found a home: Source says he’s signing with the #Jets on a 1-year deal for $7M. Nicely done.
Davis isn’t a depth player. This team isn’t running a 3-4 base anymore, the needs changed. They need 4-3 LBers that can cover and Davis can cover.
Good enough. Hendrickson isn’t my first choice for DE but we desperately need an edge and a good one. Golladay I would spend. I really can’t criticize Pats move on Junnu. I think we know the Pats history with TEs. That will make Mac Jones a viable option should they get him.
Sounds like Davis was miscast in Detroit and a lot of teams were interested in him. I absolutely trust any defensive signing we make considering the guy who is running it.
We needed a linebacker. I don't know a ton about him but I'm not a big fan of these one year players. We did it last year too. I understand cap flexibility but we need to build a team not a group of one and done players looking to scoot out the door for a big pay day.
I mean it goes without saying but this was an absolute no-brainer decision for Thuney and it isn't reflective in any way of Joe Douglas the GM.
It’s a good strategy though, if he helps team succeed he might re-sign instead of looking for the door. The other possibility is, maybe Jets draft his replacement who will be here for 4 years on a cheap contract and Jets allow him to walk.
If the replacement is drafted, then he really should be ready to play. Linebacker isn't really a sit and learn position in the NFL. The salary cap is kind of like hidden production at this point. I'm just waiting for the Saints to sign someone to a 5 year/$100 million deal while they're $600 million in the red.
No. I barely would have paid him the $80 mil over 5 that the Chiefs are. That's the kind of deal you hand out when you have made two straight Super Bowls, won one of them and have a 6-7 year window.
This is great. So many jets fans going crazy right now. On a serious note though we needed the LB, and if Hendrickson and William's come that's good for us. Now getting Gabe Jackson cheap and either Samuel or Galladay and I'll be pretty happy
