Should the New York Jets sign G Brandon Scherff? He is a 4 time pro bowler but has struggled to stay on the field. Let me know what you would do TGG. I lean towards other free agents and Wyatt Davis over him.
The guy is a brick wall for a long time. I remember loving him when he came out. Injuries scare me a bit but I think it might be worth the risk. He’s definitely one of the best guards in the league. He’ll cost a pretty penny I imagine
Getting old and he is to injury-prone for me, draft one of our own and have him for 8-10 years. Davis or Maynard please or both and we can have the right side locked down as well as Mount Becton, then maybe whoever we get at QB will be able to do their job as well
You can't just slap a bunch of first and second year players together on the O line and expect them to play like anything other than shit. Alan Faneca was 3-4 years older than Thuney and Scherff when the Jets signed him and put him in between the rookies Mangold and Ferguson and it worked out great. Those young guys need a seasoned veteran to depend on and the vets we have right now are a hot mess.
Fair enough but surely signing an injury-prone one is not the answer then? Nobody is arguing that our right-hand side is not a hot mess, Van Rotating and Fant was a bit disappointing as well tbh.
I'm fine with Thuney. I know people don't like exPats linemen but Damien Woody served well for years so it's not like every lineman that comes from that team is trash. He's also athletic and fits the mold of a wide zone pulling guard physically.
I have zero interest in Scherff and hope that JD thinks the same way. I much prefer Thuney, but if we can't sign him, there are other options such as Gabe Jackson, John Miller, Jon Feliciano, Forrest Lamp, Michael Schofield, and Ike Boettger. It's possible that some more quality veteran OGs can shake free within the next week or so as well.
Would target Thuney but worry hes gonna get a massive contractt bc it’s a weak FA guard pool. Really like Forrest lamp going all the way back to college. Was a bit of a late bloomer only starting this past season & acouple the year prior..Not the greatest in line run blocker but athletic & very good in pass pro. one could accept some of the run blocking shortcomings playing next to Becton & what he brings in providing a clean pocket. Theres speculation he’d be a Lions target due to some staff connections. While a good player on the upswing that would be an upgrade for Jets, not sure he the warrants an expensive bidding war.
