Adam Schefter on Twitter: "Cardinals are giving J.J. Watt a two-year, $31 million deal that includes $23 million guaranteed, per source." / Twitter
This was somewhat surprising to me, I thought that he would choose one of the contenders for slightly less money to chase championship. I don't see Cardinals being that, not yet at least, maybe few years down the line.
That’s a lot of money for a guy who has averaged one sack every 2 1/2 games over the last two years.
Wow. Cardinals are crazy to pay that. Injuries has slowed him down and will further slow him down next 2 years.
I don't really get it. They also had about $12-15 million in cap space before this deal so they're going to have to cut to get under. They don't have any free agents I anticipated them to make a big push to sign but this probably marks the end of Patrick Peterson (31) there. Haason Reddick is the biggest name but he also had 5 of his 12.5 sacks in one game. They also have to replace two starting offensive lineman in aging Beachum and Sweezy. Maybe Fitz comes back on a flyer. Strange strange move for both sides. They must think the time is now to win the west and are hedging Watt bringing as much as a leader as he does in production, which as @statjeff22 noted is way down at that price.
