IOL has to be the priority IMO. If either of Thuney or Scherff make it to FA, I would be very surprised if we didn’t land one of them. I fully expect JD to go hard after whichever one he prefers and have them be our first signing of the FA period.

i'd prefer schreff but wouldn't complain about thuney. if we do sign one i'd cut GVR and lewis for the cap space and resign elfien and have him, clark, and a rookie battle for the RG spot

The thing with Davis is that he may not have made a lot of splashy plays but he didn't miss tackles. He was solid in the basics. He has the athleticism to make the splashy plays and did in college. He didn't start playing football until he was in high school, so he's not as far along as other rookies were. He seems like a smart kid, so I think he will get there.

Love this! And I think it brings up some interesting questions: How much young talent is already on this Jets roster and can Robert Saleh get more out of it than Gase and Williams did?

The second part is clearly yes.

The first part is probably more than fans realize. Going (2-14) makes people want to scrap the entire roster, but the Jets already have some good pieces.

Now they can add a lot more in Free Agency and the Draft, so I truly think we will see a completely different (and better) Jets team in 2021.

I've been saying for a while that the Jets had more talent than a lot of fans realize. So many Jets fans are so negative and cynical. It's understandable based on their history, and actually, I don't understand why I'm so optimistic, but I am. I really think the hiring of Douglas is going to change things dramatically for us, and a new golden age of Jets football is about to dawn.

Sounds great to me. I'm excited to watch the Jets play actual competitive football. Really haven't seen that in 5 years.

Good coaches can turn players from putting out D/E level performance type players to B/C levels.

It's the GMs job to bring the players, but the coaching staff has to elevate the talent base. With this staff now on board and the size of it compared to the last dude, I really hope this is the case.

We have some really young players that have shown flashes - especially on D. I'm looking forward to see if these can keep improving.

Great stuff. He should only get better in the new scheme and Saleh.

I agree TDK, this roster isn't as pathetic as some think it is....
    Defense to this point
    - Quinnen Williams - Marcus Maye - CJ Mosley - John Franklin-Myers - Foley Fatukasi - Bryce Hall - Ashtyn Davis - Bryce Huff - Bless Austin- McDougald- Poole-Hewitt

Love reading this. I think with a couple FA signings, and a couple draft picks, Saleh will be able to make this defense a strength again. He saw what I saw. Potential young talent on the roster that was not being used right by Gase and Williams.

Yeah, exactly. If they can improve the cornerback position and get a pass rusher or two, the defense will transform over night. It already has solid pieces.

I think this defense could be dominant with Saleh in charge.

Draft should be heavy on the offensive side of the ball.

I hope the fanbase doesn't expect miracles in Saleh's first season.

I don't, 5-7 wins is my expectation. The players will learn a new system, the possible new QB will go through growing pains, and Saleh being a first time HC will experience his own growing pains. The question we should ask is does it look like we're heading int the right direction going into 2022. And do we take a step forward in year 2.
