Might want to throw Dak Prescott in there also.

You shouldn't trade for a FQB when you have a bad team if the price of acquiring him is a lot of high picks that you need to make the team good.

    Is that easier to understand?

Note that everybody is talking about how if JD is any good then trading all those picks for Watson doesn't matter.

I'm going to flip that and say that if JD is any good then the need to trade all of those picks for Watson isn't there.

I understood it the whole time, thanks. I disagree with it because regardless of the GM, no one is nailing every single pick and you’re alluding to that being the only way to build a team.

The Lions did not get much. The draft value for the trade was they got 620 points in draft picks plus Goff and considering Goff's contract his value might be a negative value. What the Rams gave up for Stafford was about 1/4 the value of our 2nd pick.

Houston wants to much for Watson the Jets would be stupid to make a trade with them. They will certainly be asking for Q. Williams..

What do they want for Watson?

I keep missing their statement on it.

#2 overall this year is likely more valuable than those three picks imo...

I've been thinking about this, and I'll take it a step further: Without touching any of their own picks, the two SEA 1sts the Jets got for Jamal are worth more right now than the "two 1sts and a 3rd" package LA just sent to Detroit.

Actually they are basically the same, I know it’s not in the next draft so it looks worse but this is the way you’d actually look at it.

    Jamal Adam’s Package
-Jets lose player for 2020 Season
-Picks do not start until 2021 Season

    Matthew Stafford Package
-Lions lose player for 2021 Season
-Picks do not start until 2022 Season

It sounds farther away since the trade itself happened before the draft, but the reality is they are effectively the same.

You have a good point, but the DIFFERENCE with Watson is that he's just entering his prime. This greatly lengthens the build period for the Jets - not that they should take their time, but as long as they're playoff contenders in 2 years, and SB-potential in years 3 -onward, he's worth a big, but reasonable investment.

No, I specified "right now" in the original post because I'm evaluating it for Deshaun Watson purposes, not what each was worth at the time their deals went down.

In terms of draft capital available right now and how much they'd have to give up to acquire Watson based on what the Rams gave up to the Lions, the Jets can exceed that picks package the Lions got without even touching their own/natural picks.

    I don’t think 2 1st rounders is equal to 34th overall whatsoever

I’ll give them Q + 2nd overall and 34th overall. As my best offer if they need Q in the deal.

They are not two 1st rounders but two future first rounders which are valued significantly lower. They lose one round in value for each year in the future when you tally them on the trade value chart. So the Rams 2022 pick is worth a late second rounder or 330 points while their 2023 pick is only valued as a late 3rd rounder or 145 points.
