The important thing is that JD is running the football part and Saleh will be reporting to him, not to Woody or Chris. Hopefully, Woody doesn't meddle or JD and Saleh can whip his ass.
I really don't care. Woody and his brother deserve credit for letting JD call the shots and run his coaching search. After hearing Salehs interview, Saleh immediately was hoping for a call back from the Jets when he left, meaning his meeting with the Johnsons did nothing negative. If the new power structure has the coaching staff answering to Joe Douglas, then all is well.
I care. I don't want Woody anywhere near this team. This was the worst news of the day. Chris, for all his idiocy and inability to speak in public, has been one of a handful of acting owners in the NFL whose players openly respect. I'd like to keep it that way if possible.
Even though things sucked for a while with Woody we were still exponentially better while he was in charge. Bowles had solid credentials and was viewed as a relatively good hire even if it didn't work out. Gase drove this team to a new level of dread to the point where I put the Jets on a cheap Amazon tablet at times this year and put real football on the TV.
How? Christopher Johnson poured gasoline on the dumpster and lit the damn match. Woody just prepared the tinder, he never lit the match.
I think the best thing either of them did was change the structure and stay out of the coach search. That in itself shows willingness to improve.
Woody set this franchise back years by keeping the HC and firing the GM. Christopher also set the franchise back years by firing the HC and keeping the GM. Hopefully they have learned their lesson. Douglas’ clock starts now.
It's easy to forget that from 2000 to 2010, this team never went more than 2 straight years without a playoff appearance. When Woody decided to keep Rex and can Tanny, the arranged marriages began and prevented the HC and GM from being aligned.
I personally think that, in a moment where players are becoming more and more empowered, Christopher's interaction with Jets players is an active plus despite all the other negatives. He has a great rep with them on the whole so far as I can tell, and as we're entering a period where we have a ton of capspace and the potential to lure FAs to contribute to winning, I believe that matters. Woody is just a mess and offers nothing positive to me.
Agreed they were more successful. I personally think Christopher has finally got the right people in position to match/exceed Woody's success on the field, and he's still a significantly better organizational figurehead to draw today's NFL player. I'm worried that Woody could actively hurt in that regard.
Can you show me examples of this? If I were a player I'd hate him for making me play for that jerkoff for two years...
You know when you thought you were done taking a dump, then this 2nd monster shows up and just starts giving you alternate plans.... Yea, that feeling.
