Its not so much that they didn't consult him its that they told him they were going to and then didn't. It was a lie and anyone would see that as a slap in the face

Maybe you should e-mail Cal McNair? He's the one who empowered Watson when he gave him the rare NFL NTC.

This is not the "empowering the employees" you're insinuating. Watson is wielding negotiated power right now.

You had Carson Palmer leaving the Bengals... but he was a little older. Cousins leaving the Redskins... but he was not as good. Bledsoe leaving the Pats.... both a little older and not as good.

Yeah, its quite unprecedented. I may have been off with my once in every 20 years comment

Watson had more than double the TDs and half the INTs as our QB's this year. Sign Allen Robinson and add a decent guard and we have the best offense we've had since 98 in Watson's first year.

Not quite. The no trade-clause is to prevent being traded and/or signing off on it. It doesn't really give the player the power to request a trade.

This type of stuff has been seen few and far between in the NFL and has mostly been done to renegotiate contracts historically. I fear for the envy NFL players have of NBA stars forcing their trades to where ever they want to go. It's not a good precedent and can create black holes of franchises like the NBA has in Charlotte, Washington, Sacramento, etc.

This is silly. Every single player in the NFL has the power to request a trade. Literally every single player is allowed to do it. The NTC has nothing to do with the ability to request a trade.

The NTC is what gives him the power to control the situation. It common knowledge that NTCs in any sport aren't necessarily about preventing being traded, but instead about giving the athlete power and control over when they change teams and where they go.

It’s actually sort of hard to summarize. One of the main things is that with basketball you only have 5 players on the court and they play offense and defense, which means one player can almost singularly will your team to victory (to some extent). In the past 30 NBA seasons, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, and Steph Curry make up 18 of those championships alone. The dominance of each of these players is almost equivalent to a Tom Brady type game breaker showing up in the league every 5-10 years.

As a result, superstar players have a ton of leverage and can influence the teams roster moves or force their way to other teams. It’s more complex but that’s the basic idea.

I'm sure it's just the PTSD of being a Jets fan for almost 60 years, but I can't help shake the feeling that Watson will be a Patriot when this is all said and done.

Im against the whole idea of getting Watson. It's going to cost too much, and as good as he is, he's proved he can't do it all by himself. Now isn't the time to deviate from the plan.... You build a team slowly and surely, not by trying for a quick fix

A 26 year old entering his prime is not a quick fix. That's a longterm solution.

It’s going to be really deflating when we sign Brian Hoyer and Greg Salas, isn’t it?

We'd need people around him.... Putting him out there with our team from last year cause we traded our whole lot of picks away would be like watching him with Houston last year... How'd that work out?

Be more worried about the Dolphins if anything. Patriots have nothing to offer that the Texans would want.

It actually isn't though? Depending on the package you would still have a normal amount of picks for the future.

You would assume. Except the Texans new GM came from the Patriots front office.
