    Don't forget NYCFC!

Never got too into basketball or hockey. When I was young I was into baseball, big Yankees fan (but would also root for Mets, I'm old and this was before interleague games), then around 30 years old (late 90s) just lost interest. Was always a soccer fan but after the brief Cosmos era there was no league or local team, and only world cups were televised. Early MLS was garbage but since the early 2000s I've gotten hooked on premier league, champions league and MLS. Now my 3 teams are Jets, Spurs (Tottenham not San Antonio) and NYCFC (fuck the Red Bulls).

My good friend is a Mets, Jets, and Isles fan and hasn't been this optimistic in a looooong time!

LOL we do not recognize Long Island. The Jets even bolted from there.

But Little Gary Howatt was the guy who put the beat down on big bad Dave Schultz. (Smells like Stanley Cup time.)

No, it was Gillies who destroyed Schultz in the playoffs in 1975, to the point that Moose Dupont and other Flyers jumped in to save Schultz from serious injury (and more embarrassment).

That was their second fight - the first one was in January, which was basically a draw (maybe slight advantage to Schultz) - but it's the one in the playoffs that is justifiably famous.

The other famous Gillies fights were in the playoffs in 1980, when he repeatedly destroyed Terry O'Reilly.

Schultz called Howatt "pound for pound The toughest fighter in the NHL" but that might be because Howatt sent him off bleeding more than once even though he had five inches and fifty pounds on him. The one I remember in particular was probably in the 1975 playoffs. You can probably find film on it too.

Gillies was a hockey player and a damn good one. Schultz was trash on skates.
