I dont know about the Mike Shanahan stuff. I have little doubt LeFluer will be running an offense similar to the one he was working with in SF, which is intriguing to me. Folks keep saying we are going to focus on running back and are missing one key thing that we have been without for a long time - a fullback. Expect the search for our Kyle Juszczyk to begin immediately. Since LeFLuer is the OC expect it to be one that can catch passes as well as crush people. We may need to add FB to this draft and start analyzing the prospects. What do you all think about the potential return of a genuine FB to the Jets?
I was just making the long standing joke. If the roster is bad enough that they can't squeak a fullback on there, fullback isn't the problem.
When the leagues’ offenses move to be passing oriented, the defenses soon follow. Now that all the defenses become smaller and faster, the run oriented offense will become more successful. Hurts that the league rules cater more to passing, but a shift to ground and pound could actually be very successful in the next few years, and always helps during the playoffs. Bring back the FB and draft Pewell!
Kyle Juszczyk is actually a free agent so I could see him coming here. Entering his age 30 season by the start of next year but fullbacks usually have pretty good longevity so I don't think age is a concern.
or TE. No real need to dress 3 TE's if you have a FB/H-Back type. Problem is, it's pretty rare to find that skill set and is a thankless job.
I'm in. In fact, I'd like to see teams (perhaps, our team?) use a two-man attack sometimes. What's wrong with defenses not knowing which back gets the hand-off? It's been done before ; ) I think it would find short term success, much like the wildcat did. Sometimes still does.
Most of the top teams have them to be honest. I've never really agreed with this idea that it's a wasted spot or a dying position.
On this score, why can the centre not actually long snap? What a career to have had though. What did you do in the NFL Granda? "well, I used to on occasion throw the ball through my legs to a punter to kick it down the field." Oh
You'd think with the amount of specialization that's occurred with football positions that gameday roster limits would have increased at some point, but they stayed mostly the same between 1985 and 2019. I've always preferred the term "Crotch Quarterback" for NFL long snappers. I think James Dearth probably could have hit guys on outside routes through his legs better than Chad Pennington could throw overhand.
