This guy was almost run out of the building 2 years ago in San Francisco. Not sure what is up with all the fascination with this guy.

No freaking way do they want to lock themselves into Sam. I believe they will trade him. I can't imagine Saleh or LaFleur wanting to tie their career success to fixing Sam.

Not a good hire--a GREAT hire

    1) Learned under guys like Carroll and Shanahan
    2) Well respected around the league
    3) Knows how to play the talent available
    4) High energy

He's a more disciplined, smarter Rex Ryan--aka Pete Carrol clone!

DO you like this hire, NCJ ?

If you do, what if we are NOT drafting a QB now because Saleh and JoeD are in agreement ?

If JD, Saleh, and LaFleur decide to roll with Sam for the year it presents so many options for the 2nd pick so it's certainly not a bad thing.

Those three know more about football and evaluating talent than everybody on this board combined. At some point you have to trust their judgement.

The 49ers get 2 third round picks for losing him. One this draft and one next. I dont think we get anything for the hire.
Its incentive to develop minority coaches.

Allbright also tweeted yesterday about Saleh wanting to keep Darnold. I hope a lot of you guys who have had your heart set on a new QB are bracing for this being a real possibility.

I think it's his past that's prevented him from becoming a HC.

Don't think it happens, but I wonder if Aaron Glenn would be considered for DC.

I'm still not buying it. Douglas knows not to diminish Darnold's trade value but outright saying in January that we're moving on. It's just too risky to bank on the new staff fixing Darnold; let another team take him on. What if Godforbid Darnold sucks again. We'll all want Saleh's head.....

Great hire. I’m very excited about LaFleur. Niners are a run heavy play action offense. I actually think we will take either Fields or trade down for Lance now and possibly take Harris later on. You’ll have a power running game lead by a dual threat QB. Love it

He needs some competition if he’s kept. Maybe Beathard is brought in.

I wouldn't pay any mind to what anybody says about who the QB is gonna be at this point. We still have the entire draft process to go through.

Regardless of how the Douglas/Saleh marriage works out you have to give Christopher Johnson credit. The fans got their way with both the GM and HC.

I will hold judgement until we win some games.

I've learned the hard way not to get too excited about anyone I mean we are the Jets.

Sure he has led a great defense in SF and he has been in the NFL for 16 years at every level of coaching, and I love the fact that he is 41. his players love him, he is the "leader of men" etc etc

    BUT

How does he manage the clock during games?

Will he burn time outs like Rex, TB, and AG did?

Can he make those tough on field decisions on 4th down?

Will he be involved with the offnese?

Let me say that I love JD and its about time we hired a coach who will be allowed to bring in his guys ... we would have lost out on Saleh or any other top end candidate in years past with our idiotic hierarchy.

    GO JETS

It could happen, but it could also be the Jets blowing smoke for a good ole' pump and dump.

I hope not. That's too low. At #12 the top 4 QB will probably all be gone, as will Pitts, Chase, Smith, and another WR. If we plan on taking a QB we need to take him at #2, or if it's Lance, go down no further than #5.
