Analytics is about statistical averages. It does not apply to every team, every game, and every situation evenly. By saying its not a coincidence your basically saying analytics are responsible for their success. Give me a break.
I don't know. The Eagles looked really bad when I watched them play the last couple seasons. Maybe it was Roseman's fault, maybe it was Wentz's but the excuses for a Head Coach remind me of Gase so much that it is awful. I'd much rather have a fresh Head Coach without baggage and he can start his own thing with the Jets.
Maybe Joe D was the real mastermind behind the Philly SB. Get the band back together!!!! (Somewhat kidding)
You have a misunderstanding of what analytics is. Although its a broad term so its understandable. I would suggest doing a little research. But no, it is not about statistical averages, its about statistical analysis. very, very different
I will say that, even before this Pederson news, there was ample discussion/statistical evidence that Wentz was a bottom-10 QB his whole career - even including 2017 when he garnered MVP consideration. The analysis of that year shows a QB with below average to poor underlying numbers, who happened to have a huge amount of unsustainable luck. He's basically a mediocre QB who hasn't improved. https://ftw.usatoday.com/2020/12/carson-wentz-philadelphia-eagles-struggles-2017-mvp-season-analysis Excerpt, but there's a ton of data points in the rest of the article:
They better offer him a contract by tonight. JD doesn’t need to interview him. Super bowl winning coach with a back up (Foles) Who hasn’t had any success with anyone else. Philadelphia has no talent besides ertz and WENTZ mentally got spooked and lost his drive when he got paid. Pederson got fired because he won’t play WENTZ anymore. sign this man and don’t look back. Proven track record and works well with our GM.
I’m not entirely against Pederson but I’d need to know what happened with Wentz this season and who was responsible for the Sudfeld thing to end the season?
Peterson IMHO is a Gase redo. Please NO NO NO!!!!! Don’t care ties to JD, and any “favors” due to Peterson from JD... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Pederson hasn't looked good since Frank Reich left him. He seems to have blown up his relationship with Carson and considering that last game of the year, may have blown up his relationship with Hurts. I don't want any part of him.
well I think its clear Pederson was responsible for the Sudfeld decision. And I would support his hiring
Compared to the other candidates are we going to act like Pederson isn't by far the most qualified for the job? There's a lot to like with him. NFL experience, won a SB recently, pro-analytics, aggressive play caller, CEO-type leader and not just a specialist. Combined with the JD connection I think there's a very strong chance he's our next HC. And I think we should be pretty happy if so.
if they are unqualified and providing half-ass analysis maybe. Teams are hiring Ph.D's. If all they wanted was averages, they could just dip into the local community college
I kind of want to hire Pederson solely to elevate the collective blood pressure of Giants fans in the tristate.
Teams are hiring analytic departments with really smart people and you think the best they can come up with is spitting out averages as you’re saying? On a side note I’m positive the analytics would not have told Tomlin or Vrabel to Punt when they did but good thing They trusted their gut and played field position all the way home
The small sample of eagles fans I've seen comments from are pretty much all blaming Lurie/Roseman. I think a lot of people are overreacting
A HC should know how his offense is performing, how the opposing defense is playing, circumstances in the game that has led to the decision, what his playbook has to offer, how the player the ball is going to has been performing, etc, to make a decision. Not, "will analytics says we should go for it so send the offense back out there". We can agree to disagree on this.
