I hope everyone beating their chest about Tannehill watched the game today without an elite running game too.

Words from a professional whose seen it all. But the Darnold haters on this thread will continue to argue he's garbage at 23 with no real weapons + 2 years of Gase.

"Look at the people [Darnold] came out with. Look at Baker Mayfield. Look at my man in Buffalo, Josh [Allen]. Come on, man. He wasn't the third pick for nothing. He's very talented. Tough. Loves the game. ... Not to doubt my guys here because they fought their behinds off, get him guys like Josh's got, like [Stefon] Diggs and Smoke (John Brown) and [Cole] Beasley. Baker's got Odell [Beckham] and Jarvis Landry. Get Sam help like that." -- Frank Gore.

Don't forget - McShay has stock in Darnold. He's his second highest rated QB ever. This matters as everytime they want to flash the graphics of the highest rated QBs for ESPN's second in rank draft "expert," Darnold will show up.

Not saying he's wrong. But he will ultimately defend his prospect analysis until it's completely dead.

Frank Gore's opinion is meaningless. He's been in a huddle with one top-tier QB in his life in Luck for one season. He's not a scout and never will be and he's been a mercenary for five+ years at this point.

Dude he had the worst comp pct the last two years. LOL. Diggs came around and he's #4. Football is a 11-man sport. Diggs give you the vertical and crossing that opens up Beasley. and he's probably the best route runner in the league. Like he's always where he's supposed to be, and makes amazing catches. He's a multiple season 1000yd receiver before Allen. So don't give me that.

Allen always had the talent and arm. He needed to be developed and Bills did it. Jets didn't with Darnold. Why is this hard to see for anyone?

I get it you want Fields. I think you guys sound better saying, I believe Fields will be better than Darnold. That's a valid argument.

I can show great throws by Darnold, Allen and Mayfield, and terrible ones. But I'm 1000% sure if you try and find the type of catches Odell and Landry, Diggs haul in...there's literally nobody whose been on the Jets over the last 3 years making those types of contested catches. Like take 5 mins and watch Baker's highlights from 2019. He's throwing jump balls all-day and Odell/Landry are catching them with one hand while covered. you guys need to watch more football.

You remember this play? Darnold has literally never thrown THAT bad of a pass in his entire NFL career. Allen just has more talent and better coaching around him to mask his flaws.

Defending Mayfield and Allen versus Darnold at this point is nonsensical. You lose the argument when you start it and can cry about coaching and cast all you want while doing so.

However, my post had nothing to do with any of those guys or Fields. Think about the opinions you are reading and who is saying them. McShay has been all over Darnold as an elite prospect for four years running. He'd be an idiot to not back his own assessment at this point especially since the slim possibility that Darnold reinvents his career as a franchise signal caller is still out there even if it's a slim possibility.

If we trade Darnold and trade back from # 2 for another 2nd + 1st 2022. That would give us 3 first rounders next year that we can use on a FQB. After loosing out on Lawrence I don’t think we need to draft one this year. Doesn’t mean we need to stick with Darnold either because I think we should get what we can now for him as I believe he’s a bust just like Rosen.

Trade back with Cinci for their 1st next year and then trade Darnold for a 3rd to the highest bidder. Re sign Flacco and upgrade Morgan for next season. Then in 2022 when we have a full college season and twice the amount of tape we draft the FQB with 3 first rounders in 2022!

I quoted Gore. Not McShay. I can care less what that guy says. I've watched and played football my entire life. I've seen scrub QBs, good ones and great ones. Darnold is a good QB with a terrible team and coaching around him. Anyone that says otherwise, should question their football acumen.

Gase's system is not made for Darnold. He wants a standard drop back passer whose accurate deep like Flacco/Cutler....essentially what the Chargers have in Herbert. The issue those guys are failed QBs in the league. He doesn't called quick slants or very little pre-snap motion. Darnold is a play-action, audible type passer similar to how Aaron Rodgers plays the game. If you script Darnold he'll fail, and Gase was the ultimate scripter. That's why Jets did very well on first-drive TDs last year. You have to let Darnold play with instinct and feel / not force him to throw into scripted routes. i.e. forced throws to big bodied possession type receivers like Perriman which accounted most of his INTs this year. Gase tried to make Darnold into a typical drop back passer. and he's simply not that.

Bills made Allen into a dual-threat, rollout, deep ball QB...which is exactly what he is.

This is almost obvious stuff when you look at it. The Crowder TD in the 1st Bills game, prime example. Darnold audibles and it's a pitch/catch TD....all Darnold putting his top WR in a position to succeed.

That's the best you got. the man was covered. Allen missed a wide open receiver in the endzone with no pressure.

this would mean something, but Belichick does this all young QBs in the league for two decades so far. Did you watch Herberts game against Beli? It was bad man...

Not mention Patriots D last year was all-time great statistically...

You can die on the hill of defending Darnold's deficiencies as being system dependent all you want. When it comes down to it, a quarterback will need to make plays from the pocket at some point in their career or they'll be at maximum first round exits with a good supporting cast.

The Bills supported Allen much better. But he has excellent pocket presence and makes plays on the run that are not designed rollouts. It's like you haven't watched him play this year at all if you think him breaking the pocket and flinging the ball downfield on a dropback pass has anything to do with scheme.

Allen rolls out the pocket within seconds. He doesn't even stay in the pocket long. Stop it. He rolls out to right almost every time, or does a QB draw. Yesterday, The actual time he stayed in the pocket he got sacked, literally pushed Bills out of FG range to seal the game, and Colts almost made a comeback. Good thing the Bills D held.

Pocket presence?!!! you lost your mind

EDIT: And the nice throw to Diggs early.

He tried to throw ball away and flung it for one of his four interceptions on the night. His quarterback rating was 3.6 that night as he passed for 84 yards.

Yet you're trying to cite one bad pass from Allen in what would've netted him an MVP trophy if Aaron Rodgers wasn't in the league....

No I'm citing he throws bad passes all the time, and takes terrible sacks and fumbles. But the team around him is good enough to overcome it to give him opportunities to make plays too. Darnold does not have this. OMG. please stop. this is basic reasoning at this point.

Right. He rolled out without the play calling for it. That's the point.

I've lost my my mind? You're defending a quarterback who threw nine touchdowns to eleven interceptions against a guy who went 37/10 with consistent upward progression and blaming it solely on coaching/supporting cast. Must've been a big Tim Couch guy too.

You said he has pocket presence when he took a bad sack in the pocket to get the Colts the chance to win the game. Good thing they were playing against a noodle arm Rivers. classic young QB mistake you would be killing Darnold right now about. see my point? He does not have great pocket presence. you really don't know good football if you believe that.

A team is good enough to overcome it, enough to allow him to throw 37/10 on almost 70% completion percentage? Bro. Your arguments are really stupid at this point yet it's backed by reason? Look at what you're arguing...

Pocket presence does not mean that there are never mistakes made. Russell Wilson has some of the best pocket presence in the NFL and makes mistakes. It happens. Darnold has some of the worst pocket presence in the NFL. It's a sole trait, not a team dependent trait.

I can show you multiple times when Darnold evaded a rush and scored a TD on a single play in the pocket this year. Do you really want to go down that road? the Colts TD play, the Denver rush TD. All broken plays from the pocket that Darnold willed into a TD. Yes Darnold has flaws, but there are more than enough example plays where he feels the rush in the pocket and turns into literally a scoring play. So he's more than capable.

    You really just hate Darnold?!

And Darnold was the most pressured QB this year.
