I knew this was coming. I should have clarified - I think the order means almost nothing assuming the QB/talent get taken in back to back drafts as was the case with Allen. The Jets have enough draft capital and cap space where the team will be acquiring quite a lot of new talent both this year and next year, regardless of whether they trade the #2 pick.

Again though, my argument is that the QB is the crux of the entire rebuild so you do everything possible to make sure you get that part right. For us, that means taking Fields who is likely a better prospect than any QB next year will be.

Miami is fine with the cap. Could see them offering Tua Top 5 pick and the number 3 for Watson. That leaves them I think the 23rd pick and 2 2nds.

People think Miami would trade for Watson ? Wow.....

I heard Michael Kay say that the Jets should/would consider it if they gave up the #2 overall, kept Seattle's pick, and then a #2 this year and #1 next year.

It's fine if they started on 2017 (Watkins traded, other vets, etc), and Allen came very next year. Just like we started rebuild in 2020 (Adams traded, Williamson traded, multiple trades down during the draft, bunch of trades during the year, release of Bell, etc), and QB would then come the following (this) year, precisely similar to Bills situation. Again, all the arguments you are making is in favor of getting top QB now to follow Bills model. The key is to get this top QB, ideally early in the rebuild when you have a good pick. We are now in position to do so, and we don't even need to trade up 5 spots, like the Bills did, and just use that capital for other players.

One thing I will tell you, if Bills didn't strike gold with Allen, they would look mighty stupid for trading Mahomes. The whole reason why their model worked is a top QB they were able to get. We have this opportunity now, and we have to strike.

They chose to surround him with two interior DL (Shepard and Quinnen), a 4th round tight end (Herndon), a 3rd round bust of an edge rusher (Polite), a mediocre at best 3rd round OT (Edoga), an over the hill, overpaid RB (Bell), and a 70M dollar MLB (Mosley).

The order in which you get the QB doesn't matter as long as you don't suck at surrounding him with talent like the Jets have. The Jets did next to nothing to surround Sam with talent in the 2019 offseason and worst of all, they signed Adam Gase.

It isn't often that a team has a choice at a franchise QB and still have 4 other picks in the top 100 with 70M in cap. This is the time to take a QB.

I saw on the ESPN ticker that Cal McNair (Texans owner/CEO) wants to sit down with DeShaun Watson. I imagine the compromise will be to hire Bienemy and he'll happily stay. We'll see though.

I hope so. I want Watson but don't want to give up what he's gonna cost and don't want Bienemy so that would solve everything (for me)

It'd be funny if Mahomes really doesn't think highly of EB as HC material and recommends him to Houston to sabotage his competitor.:D

If I'm EricB, I do like the Houston job but the lack of draft picks this year is a killer.

The Texans first move (if Watson forces his way out of town, I believe he will) is to see if Jax will take a Top 5 QB
for Lawrence. If this fails, the FO will play the Jets vs Fins for him, I don't believe Miami is sold on Tua, but Houston
may be sold on Fields or Wilson at #2....could become very intriguing.....

The only saving grace is that the Dolphins have a lot of money tied up in their defense for at least the next two years and will have a lot of reduced assets as a result. Their last draft also leave a lot to be desired as their offensive line was OK at best and they don't have a ton of playmakers on that squad. Parker's still only produced with Fitzmagic in one year, Gesicki is good and their stable of running backs are just that - a RB by committee.

This would be really suboptimal for us.

There's too much time before he can actually be traded for the Texans to salvage the relationship. They'd be morons to not too. They can slowly fix their cap this year by cutting Watt and restructuring a couple guys and they regain normal draft capital next year.

It'll unfortunately be one more wasted year for Watson but with the right moves they'll be in OK shape by the 2022 season. And he's got a decade left thereafter and only two years left before he can go somewhere else anyways.
