Still mind blown how many people are against this. Watson is a franchise changing type player. You would have elite QB play for 10 years, something we haven't had in decades. A great QB masks so many deficiencies on the offensive side of the ball.

You wouldn't trade an in the box safety + the #2 overall for Watson? That's insane! QB is the most important position in all of sports and we can possibly have one for just gambles.

I think Douglas should call and at least find out what the price would be. If it's a price that doesn't significantly deplete the draft capital that he's accumulated since coming here, then it might be worth exploring.

That said, he probably shouldn't go through with it, as I would think the price will be astronomical. It would be better to use the capital we have to build a young team through the draft, but as Douglas has said in the past, it doesn't hurt to listen to what another team has to say.

Makes no sense. The Jets are better off with a rookie who can grow with a new coach. I don't think Watson would want to wait for a few more years to become a contender. It makes more sense for him to go to a team like San Fran.

My post had nothing to do with whether it made sense for the Jets to make such a trade, whether it made sense for Watson to accept the Jets as a destination, and it’s simply irrelevant to my post whether it makes more sense for San Fran to want him because I wasn’t addressing which team could maximize his services most immediately. Your attempted dispute of my post makes no sense.

I agree 100%. Watson is a great QB. Not good... great. the Jets need him badly and a trade like that is a no brainer decision

And if you even take it a step further..

So according to over the cap we are at roughly $70 million with cuts we can maybe get to 85ish. His salary doesn't really hurt us in FA either. A WR like Godwin or A Rob would love to come play with a great QB like Watson. Throw in Thuney on the IOL? You improved the offense infinitely by moving Jamal Adams, the #2 pick, and money.

Let's take another step into breaking this down.

Schefter last week said Sam has garnished interest from at least 10+ teams for a 2nd day pick. You would still have 7 draft picks in the this draft to address other holes on the defensive side (2 2's and a 3) and in 2022 you would STILL HAVE YOUR FIRST ROUND PICK!!! How does this not make sense? Holy hell man.

If jets had watson THIS SEASON with all our WR injuries AND gase coaching the team, we're in the POs. Period. He's that good.

Look, we give Sam a break for losing Robbie Anderson. Watson lost his 3x all world WR DeAndre Hopkins AND his #2 for 6 games and STILL threw for nearly 5000 yards AND had the 2nd best QBR (Arron Rogers).

    Go get him!

instantly the 2nd best team in the AFC East (although that's not too hard), with a young core to build around

I can't make heads or tails of the situation. I personally don't think Douglas is the big splash type, I think he'd prefer to make all of his picks so that he can build a team with cost-controlled assets. I don't blame him. But is Watson good enough to abandon that strategy? Tough call. He's a top tier QB, no questions asked, but he also just went 4-12 with a team far more talented than ours. Yes, Watson coming here would probably attract a top WR but that's a lot of money and again, I don't think that's that Douglas way. I'd much rather have this rumor get squashed immediately than have this process drag out til April, that's for sure.

I don't think people quite understand how good Watson is. So here we go.

He lead the league in passing yards. He threw almost four times as many touchdowns as interceptions (two shy of that mark) while being sacked 49 times. Tied for the second in the league. He tied with the Giants and was behind the Eagles. We all know how good those passing offenses were. He was second-best in the league in lowest interceptions.

Keke Coutee and Chad Hansen were his top targets towards the end of the year when Fuller got suspended. Coutee came into the year with one hundred yard receiver game in his career and averaged 25 catches for 270.5 yards over his first two years.

Chad Hansen - we all know him. He couldn't get on the field for the 2017 Jets. He had a hundred yard receiving game this year with Watson.

He was the second leading rusher on his team behind David Johnson who ran for a horrible 691 yards. They had the 31st ranked rushing offense in nearly all categories and the 32nd ranked defense. Watson willed their passing offense to 8th and the team/offense to 18th in points for.

People don't want this guy because they'd rather get their jollies off in April with two first round picks? As a Jets fan and avid CFB the draft is always one of my favorite times of the year, unfortunately. So I get why we look forward to it. But this is a SUPERSTAR entering their prime. This isn't aging Matt Ryan or shot Cam Newton. S-u-p-e-r-s-t-a-r.

Some people would just want to keep trading back for more and more picks; eventually you have to do something with them.

Watson accounted for 88% of his teams total offense this year. If he wasn't on that Houston team, they'd probably have Trevor Lawrence right now.

It was an extraordinary year for Houston too. They had an incredibly difficult schedule out the gate which caused their coach to be fired and half the team to basically quit on the season.

All of those issues, and Gase, with Watson, doesn’t make the Jets much better than we saw the Texans, with multiple issues and Watson.

but add Watson to this coming years team, with all the holes we can plug in FA and the draft, and new coaching, and we likely are.

If the price is right and JD and new coach think Watson is a good fit and they can afford his salary, then it's a good idea.
