I didn't like his answer on if the scouting reports were "mostly done" at this point or if final games and CFP Playoffs and bowl games could impact JoeD's/Jets thinking on a prospect. It was a bit nuanced...but basically, he said the grade was mostly done. Like when your Finals in High School only account for 5% of your final grade.:D

I have a problem with this......

Suppose the Jets are convinced a QB like Fields is their target. Suppose they weigh all the games BEFORE the CFP and come to the conclusion, based on some mediocre teams, that he has trouble against good secondaries, picking out receivers, etc.

Suppose he's playing an Alabama team that has an all-time defense with several #1 draft picks in the secondary -- let's call them The Revis Twins. :D Suppose Fields torches a spectacular Alabama defense with one of the greatest college secondaries of all time in the championship game (I realize today's Alabama team isn't noted for defense, so just play along).

You going to tell me that going 30 for 40 for 450 yards against a college secondary that averaged about 125 yards per game shouldn't be taken into account...but a couple of medicore off-days against average talent 2 months earlier should ?

I probably am overreacting but it almost was like JoeD was saying nothing in the final games of the season and/or Bowl Games and/or CFP Championships should really impact final scores. I think they have to.

Don't go overboard but don't ignore, either.

i don't think it's quite as simple as that

Pederson said he wasn't trying to lose the other day; no one and i mean not even his mother believes him

you still need to maintain credibility -- hard won, easily lost

also one other point which is totally true: if your comments/criticism are fair and delivered respectfully you'll at least be respected for that. If your comments are sugar coated, but you don't back them up with action, you won't be

This is my take as well. I think Joe Douglas will put a bunch of QBs in a bucket (Justin Fields, Zach Wilson, Mac Jones, Kyle Trask, Trey Lance) and go from there (after securing another vet QB for 2021, Sam or some other QB). I believe Douglas will draft one of these QBs, but not 2nd overall. JD will trade down at least once. He might even target one of these QBs with our Seattle pick near the end of the 1st round. There's just not enough there for Douglas to justify using his 2nd overall pick on Fields instead of trading down for a mini-haul and then drafting Wilson or one of the other ones a bit later. Drafting a QB (or any player really) is such a crap shoot. JD is in the perfect spot to trade down and STILL get one of the top QBs.

He'll do with QBs exactly what he did with WR last draft.

What I got from it is that he is keeping his card very close. We could read anything into his answers.

That said, I'm now absolutely sure he is trading the number two pick.

I think that Douglas wants to draft a QB but is willing to leave himself a little wiggle room to be talked into keeping Sam from a respectable head coach. I think the biggest priority for him is to bring in the best head coach based on their criteria and not singular roster moves. There is no point in moving Sam right now anyway so they can remain flexible for the time being. I would say Sam is 90% chance of going right now all else being equal.

We can speculate all we want but it will be the decision of the new HC.

Sam said he wants to be a Jet for life and that is commendable, now will he forgo his 5th year option and sign a team friendly deal?

If he refuses he is toast but i very much doubt there will be loads of teams waiting to give him 25m.

Also, he still has his QB he drafted last year. Morgan could be anything, we never found out as Gase had no intention of using him but it will be interesting to see next season.

Who says Sam won't "Click" in his new system?
Who says we can't keep Sam too?
People act like it's their money and we need to be 50mil under the cap...why? Who tf do we ever sign that's worth any of that money?

Whatever they do, so be it...if it's successful we'll have a bunch of I told you so threads.
    Same shit if it backfires.
The only cure for ALLLLLL of this shit is ...
    Winning.

We're more likely to trade out and still pick a QB in the 1st round than anything else at this point.

I think it likely Darnold will still be on the depth chart when camp opens. It makes sense to keep him for the camp competition and if somebody loses a QB in camp next year Darnold becomes a good trade chip.

That’s exactly what he was saying, he said combines and interviews will complete the grade.

Remember when reports came out that Terry Bradway was screaming for Jets to draft Russel Wilson before any Jet fan ever heard of him?

Joe and his scouts were grading these guys long before YouTube made highlight videos of them. Fans are very late to the game when it comes to prospects. No decision should ever be made based on one or two games.

Personally I like it that they have scored them already, I don’t want a fickle GM making decisions.

I agree with you, my only caveat is I hope he does not trade out of top 10. If he trades down to 8th and picks up another pick this year and next year and stay in top 10 I’ll be cool with it.

Heads will explode when he doesn’t trade because the draft capital needed to move into second spot is too rich for teams and Jets select Sewell.

We might have to send @Jonathan_Vilma to a peer counseling group when Fields is not selected by Jets...;)

    TGG when Jets select Sewell.

Joe will have a pretty good gauge as to what each team is looking for in the draft. I don't think he'll go any lower than what he feels comfortable with and still get a QB. The only problem will be if a team trades up. Say the Fish trade out of 3 with a team looking to get a QB, and Joe has already traded down to 8. White knuckle time!

Douglas likely has several QB prospects he's comfortable with at this point.

I doubt he's sweating the first 3 picks.

There is zero reason for Sam to sign a “team friendly deal” that would pay him less than the fifth year option would, unless it’s loaded with incentives that take it way higher and he bets on himself. Even then, it’d be a bad bet for him based on how this team has failed to get him a good coach, OL, receivers, and RBs. He’d have to be nuts.

that being said, we don’t HAVE to do anything....he is still under contract for next year at his rookie rate, so JD could absolutely keep him AND draft a QB at 2 or later after a trade down. JD literally holds all the cards.

will be super interesting to see how he plays them
