Impressive. Missed a few things here and there because of WiFi but I liked it. I like the point he made about working in lock step with the new HC for improving the team personnel and selecting a coach that is a partner, and allowing him to pick his staff. Honesty about himself where he could have done better in staffing the team was refreshing.
Sam potential trade to SF is looking more and more plausible every day, we need to be patient and wait for our HC selection first. That’s where all the energy is going now. Seems like a solid plan to me.
According to the interview, JD and Gase are friends. It was Chris Johnson's decision to fire Gase and it wasn't made earlier this season. Asked about why it didn't work out with Gase here, "JD replied that he didn't want to bash Gase or get into the details." He asked if Woody was demanding to be called "Ambassador" like the "Maestro" on Seinfeld LOL
That would make more sense to me if Detroit is willing to trade Stafford. I know if I were the SF GM or HC I'd rather have Stafford than Sam, although they'd have a very short window in which to try to win, and then they'd be back at the drawing board looking for a QB.
Kinda felt with the presser he had a good rapport with John Harbaugh with his time with the Ravens. Sounded like he thinks highly of him.. I wonder if he knows Jim Harbaugh and if he does I wonder if Jim likes Douglas and would use his brother as a reference.
What I learned from this interview... - scouting of their prospects has been done, it’s at about 99%, interviews and combines will finish the last portion. - The draft board is already in the process of being completed but no one bowl game will determine prospects rise or fall. - Next HC is going to reflect Joe’s ideology on team building. - Click bait articles are for fans only, Joe is not talking to anyone outside the organization about trades. - more importantly, Jets are in good hands with Joe D. - I believe Sam will stay the way Joe spoke about how he played clean and beat two playoff teams. Joe may believe with better talent Sam thrives. Personally I’m not sure that’s the case. Just my take.
I think he was trying to keep his trade value up by mentioning that he beat 2 playoff teams. Sam wasn’t very good in those games either. The D played out of their minds against LA and Cleveland. The Browns were one of the best rushing teams and they kept them to under 40 yards! That too me was JD trying to sell Sam all day long.
thank you. not to be too cynical but JD talking about Sam is win-win. if nothing else it's a class act; might not help Sam's trade value but compare that to Wentz-Pederson situation. Or he could be shooting straight it's ridiculously hard to win in the NFL. We have been so desperate that Sam is the lightening rod. I remember years ago the Pats saying they could tell if we were going to run or throw before the snap based on certain tells from the OL. Could have been mind game bullshit or could have been true. TO win you need complete team, support staff, analytics, legal spying etc. i heard Feely the other day criticizing the Jets for not having enough movement perhaps helping Sam with pre-snap reads. We have a lot of work to do to catch up
very valid point. But with Douglas saying the New HC will aid in picking QB and money will play into the Darnold decision, Sam is gone.
By now it's kind of obvious Darnold lacks the instincts and quick decision making ability to be one of the better QBs in the league. Since he has shown a lack of significant improvement, it makes absolutely no sense for the Jets to continue to roll the dice with him at this point. Tying up all that money on an unproven commodity is just downright foolish. I saw some media jackass saying the Jets keep Darnold and trade down for Penei Sewell. Sure, that would be a great idea if today's NFL didn't resemble some arcade video game where teams go up and down the field at will due to nobody being able to play defense. Hard to tell if these useless eater media douchebags are saying these things intentionally or if they're just natural born morons.
These guys are taught to answer these questions the same way. Complimenting Sam is how you directly avoid answering the tough question.
You obviously haven't heard all his calls. I met Ira at Gary Myers Pre-Draft party and he was a very nice guy. BTW, his nephew was the OC or DC for the Lions a week or two ago. Filled in.
