What???? You went from defending MacCagnan's drafting prowess to listing Douglas's mistakes. I thought we were talking about MaCagnan and his drafts, which you now are apparently labeling as "mistakes," since you write that "all GMs make mistakes." Also I have NO idea what your "just typical fanboy...unconditionally" means or even implies (????). Anyway, my belief is that MacCagnan was the worst GM the jets ever had (yes, worse than Idzik, because MacCagnan's 5 year screw-ups did more long term damage v. two years for Idzik). If you think otherwise, that's fine. And feel free to respond to this if you want...you can have the last word.
The receiver ran the opposite way on the first clip. Second clip were some bad plays. But shows nothing about not going through progressions. It shows a kid who didn't handle pressure well and tried to a superman play when he should've just ate the sack. At least my clips were relevant to the claim I made. Yours have nothing to do with your one read and run if it's not there claim.
Hindsight is always 20/20. darnold was the right pick hard to fault him for that or that he put us in a position for him. adams turned out to be the best safety in the league and we traded him for 2 1sts. Q is looking beastly. robby was gold as an UDFA. bless is looking legit as a 6th round pick as a starting CB. Edoga is looking like solid depth maybe even a starter at RT soon. Wesco hasn't seen the field so hard to judge there, cashman looks like a good depth ILB in the 5th if he can stay healthy. Shepard is a good d-lineman. foley was a steal as a 6th rounder. Herndon has outperformed his 4th round pick status and was a beast as a rookie. Maye is a top safety in the league. chad hansen just had a 100 yard game for houston. Jenkins has been a solid OLB for many years as a 3rd rounder. shell was solid and starting for the seahawks right now as a 5th rounder. leonard williams is a beast for the giants.
I'm not defending him. I'm just being resonable and objective. your the one being the angry fanboy at an ex GM. I like JD but he's been far from perfect and has made his mistakes too
n he didn't reciever fell down but the ball placement was awful even if he didn't way out of reach and right to a defender. 2nd clip was him playing hero ball into bad plays just like darnold does instead of eating the sack. except the 1st INT in it where it was just an awful throw that sailed way over his WRs head. I like fields that's the funny part. I'm leaning him over wilson right now. but lets not pretend he's patrick mahomes + micheal vick like you guys are hyping him to be
Agree Darnold was the right pick. Adams was a box safety taken at #6, dumb. You can't give Mac credit for Douglas trading Adams away lol. Bless sucks, he's barely a serviceable starter. Edoga is awful. Wesco hasn't seen the field? Good thing Mac used a mid rounder on him! Cashman has been a nonfactor. Hurt all the time and not impactful when playing. Maye is great, yeah. Again though this doesn't mention any of the guys Mac used mid-high picks on that are no longer even in the league. Mac's main problem was he had no scouting ability and even less backbone, so he always picked the guy the "experts" considered the best because he had no actual vision for how the team should be built. He squandered a ton of early picks on low-impact positions so even if the guy was as good as expected it didn't help the team win at all.
adams is more then a box safety. if he was a dumb pick w wouldn't have gotten 1 1st let alone 2 of them. he was a pro bowler and an all pro. would troy palamalu be a bad pick? injuries you can't blame either. you can't predict a guy will be hurt especially when they have no injury history. bless is much better then you give him credit for. he's a legit CB2 found in the 6th round. sure he's had whiffs. but polite felt like a steal in the 3rd for a team desperate for a pass rush. shit happens
Most people think we fleeced the Seahawks with the Adams trade. That's a feather in Douglas' cap, not Mac's. There's a reason Polite fell to the third round - he was an absolute cancer off the field and was incredibly lazy. It seems 31 other GM's got the memo but not Mac. I really don't know how you can cite Polite as a steal when he got cut before training camp was even over. For that to happen with a 3rd round pick is just incredibly bad and speaks to how little due diligence was done on him by Mac and co. before they spent a fairly valuable pick on him. I want to say it was the first time in history a 3rd rounder got cut before training camp was over.
I was on the trade and build side of the argument but my concern is that we build a Lamar Jackson offensive system and for the next couple of years all we can reach for is a semi-mobile pocket passer or vice versa. We're going to have a new head coach and he's going to be here for 2-3 years at a minimum so whichever QB he feels will work in his system or he can develop a system for is the pick at #2. Only way I can't see us going QB at #2 is if we somehow end up with Stafford, Wentz or some other veteran QB with a few years left in them. If go into the 2021 season with Darnold as our #1QB with a JAG back-up and rookie (Morgan?) behind him then I thnk that will finally turn me from watching and rooting for the Jets into occasionally checking the box scores on Monday morning to see what's what.
Why wouldn't we still draft a QB at #2 even if we do trade for Stafford or Ryan? Those guys are older and their ability can drop off a cliff overnight. The whole point of having someone like that would be to play at a decent level while the young QB is adjusting to the NFL, learning the offense and working on whatever he needs to work on. That's the ideal type of QB to have a great young QB prospect observe and learn from. Even a so-so QB prospect could still learn from them, but if he is of lesser ability, it's not going to really help him that much. The goal is to build a championship team. To do that you need a topnotch QB. I understand that top 10 QBs are expected to start immediately, but they don't have to. They didn't used to play immediately. Mahomes sat for a year. It wouldn't hurt Fields or Lawrence to sit for a year behind a Ryan or Stafford, either Fields or Lawrence could learn a lot about playing QB, how to prepare, etc., watching and talking to Ryan or Stafford. If the Jets had a Ryan or Stafford starting, I think the fanbase would be more patient waiting to see the rookie QB. With a vet QB like Colt McCoy, they wouldn't be nearly so patient. That said, I don't see Douglas making a move like that. It would probably still cost a lot of draft capital and for what? The chances are that either wouldn't lead us even into the playoffs in 2021 and almost certainly not lead us deep into the playoffs.
To me, drafting a QB whilst retaining Darnold or getting some other potential starter in FA shows you aren't really sure. That you lack conviction. Its fine to get a mentor-type QB in if you're not sure that the draftee will be ready to go in year 1, but you don't get someone like Stafford who wants to start. If you draft a QB at #2 you need to be all in on that pick.
I think Mac tried the theory of letting the draft come to him and take the BPA. A good theory however you need to take the right player and not depend on the Mel Kipers of the world to dictate rankings. He passes on Mahomes and Watson for Adams.. that was the beginning to the end. Drafting Sam over Allen also a huge mistake the following year because he didn’t have to trade 3 2s for Allen and he was by far the better prospect. Even Palmer who coached Sam and Josh up before the draft gushed over how special Allen was. Cleveland considered taking him at 1 overall at one point as well according to sources. It seemed he wasn’t on Macs radar and he traded 3 substantial picks for Sam.
Ryan Tannehill is near the top too. It might not just be the QB, the coach and supporting cast are also very important.
I don't see Trevor L as an option in the current Poll is that why SD still gets 35%.? smh (See NDs post he's dead last)
Because Lawrence isn't an option. He's going first overall and nothing is changing that. The Jaguars aren't trading and they aren't taking Fields.
That’s true but even with Miami Tannehill was pretty good (check the stats)...He went from pretty good to now close to elite (advanced analytics say he’s close to the top of the league)
You are correct that its only $72 million at the moment. That said, cutting Henry Anderson and Alex Lewis alone, create an additional $13.566 million in space. Other potential cuts to create room, depending on where you spend money would include Fant ($7.40 million savings), Van Roten ($3.406 million savings), Griffin (1.875 million savings) and Crowder ($10.50 million savings).
