I disagree entirely. Zach Wilson really bothers me as a pick. 2020 was his only year where he performed well and it was against ZERO high ranked opponents. The only ranked team he played against was Coastal Carolina, which is a joke. Zach Wilson is not someone I like
Posts here point to the advantages of stockpiling picks ...trading away our second "Until the next best QB comes along" lmao..and when or where will that be?....or is aBrady hiding out at the last pick of Round one??! Life has no guarantees..but at 2 you don't let some other team grab Fields or TL if Meyer wants his OSU boy
I prefer Wilson. He has uncanny accuracy, great arm and and even better work ethic. Fields is not NFL ready where Wilson has played in an NFL style offense at BYU
Correct, life has no guarantees. But short term thinking should never cloud long term judgement. This is a 2-3 yr rebuild. No singular player is a guarantee either.Just like Fields is no guarantee & before his last game most on here werent even enamored by him in the slightest. Now suddenly hes foolproof & someone we cant possibly pass on? There willl literally never be another QB prospect as good? This is bigger than any one player. Look at the last handful of drafts.nearly Every class has had legit 1st round QB prospects.Plenty of hits & misses. Look at College & even HS recruiting. The days of QB scarcity is over. We are in a position to stockpile a ton of picks, be forceful w our future & still get a great QB prospect along the way.If that means passing on acouple QB prospects..so be it.
320 yards, 65% completion the second int happened cause the receiver broke off his route ... if he keeps running like he’s supposed to, he crosses the defenders face and is in prime position to catch that TD Fields played well
I just don't agree with this when it comes to Fields. Fields has been incredibly consistent in college and had he played a full season in 2020, might have been a bigger prospect that Lawrence. His play this year had him on a trajectory to be better than Lawrence. Hell, he had a 73% completion percentage this year and a 67% last year, which is mind blowing. Both years better than Lawrence. This last game wasn't people putting stock into him because of one game. It was his ability to carve apart a dominate Clemson defense.
Sigh, there is more to 1 td, 2 int result... I clearly remember on the game ending INT Olave ran the wrong route and fell down Fields was having a better game overall then Lawrence. Just bad luck https://www.espn.com/college-football/game?gameId=401135279
It was not just that Stat line. He had a few passes that should have been picked off but were dropped. They also picked him off for a 3rd time that was called off due to holding. I distinctly remember him not playing very well
And Sanchez threw for 400+ yards in the Rose Bowl, too !! We need to see the Alabama game.....and we will !
Wilson is a tough guy to gauge. Played well in 2020, but BYU had a super easy schedule vs 2019. In 2019 vs 3 ranked teams + bowl game, he played just like he did vs Coastal Carolina... 2019: Utah - 0 tds - 2 ints - 208 yards USC - 1 td - 0 int - 280 yards Washington - 1 td - 1 int - 277 yards Hawaii - 0 tds - 2 ints - 274 yards Also in 2019 take away his one game vs overmatched MASS (4 tds) and he had 7 tds and 9 ints for the season. In 2020, if you look at the teams he played well (threw 4 tds+ and no ints) against - TXST - 2 wins - 10 losses UNA - 0 wins - 4 losses Houston - 3 wins - 5 losses so Wilson is a 1 year wonder padding stats against bad teams... doesn’t mean he will be a bad NFL qb, but factor in his injury history and I think you can’t risk selecting him over Fields. As far as work ethic, both guys are said to be hard workers. Sam works hard too... so...
I dont watch much college Football but I watched the Sugar bowl as it had Fields and Lawrence in it. I very much liked what I saw, arm strength ability to stick and move out of the pocket. But after watching Darnold lock in on receivers for so long I was happy to see Fields scanning the field before making a choice. He looked pretty good. Id be happy if we took him at 2.
He played against a good Northwestern defense the week before Clemson and choked pretty badly. If not for their running game they wouldn't have even made the CFP. Fields has shown to be inconsistent against good defenses. One game is not going to change that.
