This team was bad but we are talking about our beloved Jets. We have put up multiple stinkers and had back to back #1 overall picks thanks to Kotite.
This year's team or the Kotite one. Tough choice. Also the 70's were no picnic either. My vote is for the 1-15 team with Kotite but its close.
On the defensive side of the ball probably not, but the offense is so bad it’s weighed down the team. I think our offensive stats this year would be bad for a team playing in the 1950s let alone in 2020. This season Darnold had an arguably worse stat line than Geno Smith in 2013-2014. Maybe a better question is are they the worst on paper? I’m inclined to say no, but certain positional groups could be like receiver, edge/outside linebackers, secondary minus Maye (though Hall is catching on a bit), runningbacks, and tight ends are arguably the worst in the league.
Should have won (at least) 3 games. No preseason. Injuries galore in early season. Very tough schedule. All factors which I think mean I can't say they are the worst Jets team ever. There were times, particularly early on, when I thought they might be the worst in NFL history though.
It feels like our worst situation ever. The thing that tempered the Kotite Era was the rumors, which got stronger everyday, that Parcells was coming in 1997. We had hope! This year, those who had hope about Lawrence, had that crushed when we lost the pick. Even though I think Douglas is capable of turning us around, all we really have now are questions marks. With Parcells, there was an air of certainty that he would turn it around, and, although we didn't ever get to a Super Bowl, it did lead to perhaps the greatest (or second greatest) run in our history 1997-2010. The general feeling now is not so optimistic.
That first years Kotite team (1995) was maybe the worst talent wise, though they managed to win 3 games.
The kotite team was not that bad. I believe we had the lead at the half in 6 or 7 games and were tied once. This team is pretty similar not that bad with foundational pieces. With just a a very bad head coach this team likely wins against Denver, the Pats, Buffalo, Las Vegas and Dolphins. But the Lou Holtz team was just pathetic. Our biggest game of every year back then was our game against the Giants in the preseason as the regular season just did not matter.
I wouldn't say worst ever. I will say that the 2020 season has been among the most painful/disappointing in my years of Jets fandom (see avi).
If this is our worst team ever then picking a QB at #2 would be the stupidest decision in Jets history. But this wasn't our worst team ever.
That must be the most common way to get out of the basement then. Can you name all the crummy teams that have successfully done this?
This team was worse than the 1-15 team. The 1-15 team had some talent on it, which made the 1-15 record more tragic. It was just poorly coached. The same basic team went 9-7 the following year, under a good coach.
