I respectfully disagree. I like Wilson a lot, but he is not the prospect Fields is. Fields doesn't have any major red flags imo. Wilson has at least two, maybe 3 or even 4.

    Wilson's red flags:
    1) previous surgeries on both shoulders, obviously the one on his throwing arm is the more important one
    2) his thin/slight build - I'm not certain that he can hold up to the pounding and stay injury free. That puts his throwing shoulder in more danger of getting re-injured.
    3) his aggressive attitude/running style - Wilson doesn't slide when running. He throws his shoulders into defenders. In the Coastal Carolina game, he even tried to hurdle a defender. That's a sure-fire way to reinjure his throwing shoulder, suffer a concussion, or other serious injuries. He will have to learn to greatly scale back his running, be less aggressive, and learn to slide. I'm not sure that he can or will. It may be instinctual with him.
    4) He has a live arm, but it isn't as strong as he thinks it is, and isn't as strong as Fields' arm. With his aggressive attitude and throwing a lot of passes into tight windows, he will have a lot of those intercepted in the NFL because the DBs are better and faster.

Then as you say, there's the level of competition and the fact that he only has one season of very good play. Does that remind you of anyone (Sanchez)?

Oh, I don't disagree with pretty much anything you typed there. Except for #2, I think he could bulk up somewhat. For #3, he could learn how to slide. Although, that is sometimes easier said than done.

But overall, Fields definitely has a higher ceiling for sure.

If Douglas thinks he can trade back to #5 and get one of Lawrence and Fields, then he's a dumbass and we'll be looking for a new GM in a year or two. I'm not even sure that he could get Wilson at #5, but probably could. He'd better not get greedy and try to get both Fields and an extra pick or two. He needs to stay put at #2 and take Fields (or Lawrence if the Jags take Fields).

Exactly this. If the QB is good enough to draft at 5 you don't get cute. You draft them at 2 and don't do anything imbecilic allowing some other team to jump you and leave you scrambling. You take gambles like this with ANY OTHER position but QB. And you do it when you are guaranteed one of multiple players you rate equally.

    Agreed.

That said, as of now, I think Wilson could be had with the #5 pick. Lawrence is going #1 and Fields #2 at this point.

He can bulk up some, but will it be enough, or will it hinder his throwing motion/accuracy?

Some guys have too much machismo/testosterone for their own good. Fields could be one of those guys. Yes, he can learn to slide, but will he? Will he be able to resist that urge to show how tough and manly he is? Some guys just can't get past that. For his sake, I hope he can, because I think he can be a very good QB in the NFL. I wouldn't be horribly upset if Douglas traded down to #4 or #5 and took Wilson, but I think it would be a very risky move, and could cost him his job and career if Wilson can't stay healthy and/or if Fields is night and day better than him in the NFL.

You would have drafted Rosen in that draft, the one guy in the first round who actually is still considered worse than Sam. Not criticizing you for liking Rosen, just saying that touting your judgment in that draft as some sort of indication that you are going to be right in this one, seems like a flawed argument at best, since you did even worse than the Jets in 2018 by picking Rosen.

    Exactly.

Fields could bust in the NFL, as any QB prospect could. But it won't be due to anything zace has said or predicted, lol.

That's the job of JD and his staff to figure out, lol (luckily). Why he gets paid the GM big bucks.

You can't just proclaim he Isn't an NFL talent because you've thrown a couple videos up (the one I watched was awful), and claim he Isn't an NFL talent. Then, It be so. That's not reality.

I've broke down why you're wrong.

You come back with, I've posted other videos, he's not an NFL talent, end of story. Oh, he can't make NFL level throws (even though he CONSISTENTLY shows that he can on film. Others have even linked you videos).

Then you ask why we would replace Darnold with him? Suggesting they are the same QB. In what world are they ESSENTIALLY the same QB? I would love to hear that break down. They aren't the same at all.

Keep, Darnold, or draft a different type of QB? Good News.

Fields Is a very different type of QB than, Darnold. I promise.

Go watch him play, like, really. Go watch him play, I can't imagine you have this same stance If you actually took the time to watch several of his games.

    Just to clarify.

Wilson had a college career completion percentage of 60.9. Fields is 69.4%.

Also.. Who Is saying that Fields has a weak arm exactly? Besides you and others that haven't taken the time to actually watch him play?

What impressed me the most about Fields is that after he got hurt, he was forced to throw the rest of the game and he was STILL dominant. With his running capability, that’s a major headache for defenses.

I actually really like Wilson but like you said, the previous surgeries and his very narrow shoulders/upper body scare me. You can see guys who are slender that have broader/wider shoulders and upper body that tell you they can add weight. I don''t know if his body type will alow him to safely add the 7-10 pounds needed to take the physical pounding required of the position.

I just think Fields is the "safer" of the two.

You couldn't be further wrong...Geno Smith couldn't hold Fields jock strap and don't tell me its because he threw 6tds against Clemson too. Watch the highlights of that game and where that team was ranked.

Gene also went in the 2nd round...how do you know Fields is NOT a NFL qb?

    You simply don't, period.

Yes you do, period. I dont watch highlights, thats why I'm not impressed like you are. I watch everything. He does not have the arm talent or skill to play in the NFL. He will not succeed. Mark or down, and in 3 years ill remind you that i was right.

Aka, I'm right and you are wrong - lol

Fields does have the arm talent and skill to play in the NFL. Constantly saying otherwise doesn't make it true. Sorry to burst your small bubble.

And don't worry, if/when you get proven wrong like with Josh Rosen, I have your post in my sig as a constant reminder lol.

Yeah i know, saying something over and over doesn't change anything, that's why you're not getting any smarter.

But im be sure to make sure i rub it in. Ive been right far more than I've been wrong. So you can hang on to Rosen as your proof, but i previously predicted the demise of Sam, told you all your oline wasnt nearly as bad as you all claimed....that proced true. Told you Cousins was a bad qb and wasnt worth the money, was right about that. Actually....i said Baker Maxfield was the best qb in that draft. That hasnt been proven false. Predicted the fall of Fitzpatrick, was told how clueless i was, but was right again. I really could go on and on.

Because i watch actual film and plays and not highlight films, i dont just pick what i like and dont like. So im sure ill be right about Fields, way more so than the other top 2 qbs.

    1) Cousins isn't a bad QB (far from it), just not an elite one, necessarily (like a top 13-15 QB). Not quite worth that money, but he would still be one of the best QB's the Jets would have ever had in their history (might say more about the team than anything, but I digress)

    2) O-line isn't god awful, but it's not/wasn't great by any means

    3) Mayfield isn't the best QB in the draft so far, that would be either Josh Allen (as much as I hate to say it), or Lamar Jackson.

    4) Fitzpatrick prediction wasn't that hard given what his career has been like

Sure, you may or may not be right about Fields. We'll find out once he makes the NFL.
