The logic was simple. He won’t quit he will just keep treading yardage. You’re not winning and you know it. He meanwhile wanted his yardage even though he said he’d like to play next year opportune for both parties he could take his reps without really hindering young players. He likely toughed it out despite injury during the game as it was. It saved wear and tear on young guys (when you’re not going anywhere) for the bulk of the season. No harm no foul.
