First off, big win... obviously. With that said I laugh at the excessive homerism on a few issues... mainly these ones. -D'Brick got taken to school tonight. If you think otherwise you were watching a different game. Is it a big deal? You tell me. Jason Taylor owned him tonight, but D'Brick is a rookie and has nothing to be ashamed about by getting dominated by one of the best DEs in the league. He will have (and has had) some growing pains... hopefully he's learning and is better prepared next time. Main thing is we won, and im glad D'Bricks shortcomings didn't cost us the game. -Love him or hate him, Chad Pennington scares me as a QB. His arm is awful to be polite. Tony Kornheiser and Theisman? They're right. Except when they all of a sudden changed their tone about Chad once we went ahead... they bashed him all night then praised him once we won, lame. With that said... Chad scares me for more then one reason... first his arm is weak, I already said that. But secondly and more importantly he almost got Laverneus Coles killed on two occasions with his lame duck throws and Leon Washington once aswell. He is going to get someone seriously hurt out there. His balls never get to the receivers at the time they need to and they hang to the point that by the time they are catchable the receiver has 2-3 guys on him and one coming in hard ready to drill him (see Thomas, Zach). I love Chad's demeanor and perseverence just as much as the next guy, but I see him as the short term solution. He is not the answer... I hope the coaching staff agrees with me. Thats all. Go JETS!
First of all, I had to mute the TV when Kornholio and Joey Sunshine were bashing on Pennington, we got the point the first six times. And while I've called for the Duck out of anger more than a couple times, its like those dumb announcers said, I don't think the Jets could line up right w/out Chad in the lineup. With that I couldn't even watch the game with my family and had to go to another room because my Mom's rooting for Chris Chambers to score touchdowns because my brother has him on his fantasy football team.
You got that right.... Now you're batting .500 lol Jason Taylor had 1 sack and 3 tackles.....while 1 sack could be extrapolated to 16 over a full season, Taylor is one of the best and he did NOT have tons of pressures or shots at Chad. 3 tackles ??? Sorry, if you told most of us that Taylor would have 1 sack, 3 tackles, and no impact plays, I'd have signed on the dotted line. Taylor himself will probably tell you this was not one of his best games of the season. Fine, please tell us all the QB's that you would want ahead of Chad......Manning (Peyton)....Rivers.....Brees...not too many, huh? Oh yeah, Chad has beaten both Manning (Peyton) and Brees in the Playoffs. Ramsey has a rocket of an arm and gets the ball in there quickly and his receiverd don't get 'killed' -- please tell us how many teams are beating down the door to make him a starting QB ??
So what you are saying is that Chad can't play in a monsoon right? Because if you forgot, the rain was heavy & horrible and he couldn't grip the ball. So guess what, I would have a problem throwing the ball as well.
Not only did Taylor only get 1 sack and not much pressure but the 1 sack came on a play that was a blown protection read not a great move or something. D'Brick needed help on Taylor sometimes but that is to be expected.
I thought it was a decent enough post. People need to grasp the fact that Pennington is an average quarterback. He is an above average touchpasser with below average arm strength, and there ARE many throws he simply can't make. The defense we play in a given week decides whether his advantages or disadvantages will show up greater. How can you make your point by asking him a question and then giving your opinion over his? I would rather have Manning, Brady, Palmer, Brees, McNabb, Bulger, Hasselbeck, Leinart, Cutler, Young (Those three based on pure-potential), and I think Favre and McNair as well, at least for this season. And this is by no means coming from a Pennington hater, I wear the authentic #10 every game and I'll root for the guy to the death, I just see a lot of physical limitation ... and I know the next smart defense we play i.e. is going to exploit it .. and I don't know if it's something that can be cured via coaching. A year or two of Mangini and I'd probably be willing to add guys like Roethlisberger, Losman (funny taste in my mouth saying that), and Grossman to the above list, because what ails them CAN be cured.
Sorry boys but the original poster is pretty spot on. D'Brick ended up getting Help on his side and Taylor Missed a bunch of Plays and played the rest of the game Hurt (Vision). D'Brick Has had good games but especially in the last few he's looked pretty slow. Call it the rookie wall but he has to play better. On to Chad. I'm one of the sayers that Accuracy> Arm strength also, I feel that Chad is the Field General and just can't imagine this team being where they are with another QB @ the Helm. Maybe in the future but Chad is the Man right now... That said, Schottenheimer has to Help him and The receivers out by stretching the D More. The Lack of Downfield plays is inexcusable and very Hackettesque.
Does it mean anything that he got beat a few times tonight? Maybe, maybe not. What you can't argue is that Taylor had a sack and a couple of other plays due to beating Ferguson, but for the most part managed to keep him from killing Chad most of the night. And then when we needed to offensively rally and score - we did. I can't fault a small few plays given up by a rookie to one of the leagues better/best defensive ends. Maybe some folks expectations are a little high? Chad literally scares you as our QB? Well, like Ricky Bobby, maybe you need to learn to live with the fear brother. I hate to make excuses, but that pouring rain could not have been helping him any. Sure, he isn't a rocket armed passer, but he is a decent QB, better than quite a few others in the league. How many would have been able to put that ball where he did for Cotchery last night? Good pass, right on the money. Or maybe that was a fluke, huh? As for the boobs in the booth, as I recall, only one was straight out Chad bashing (I don't care to know which one). The other was trying to play devils advocate at least, I thought. Sure, Chad is going to throw a couple of questionable throws here and there. Sit and watch the other 31 teams starters and show me a game where they are PERFECT and never almost give up anything. It happens man. What is important is winning. Right now we are winning more than we are losing.
This is really silly. Chad gutted a win out in terrible conditions. He made one mistake and luckily the Phins didn't interecept the ball. Plus he made a few very nice plays (The scrambles, the pass to McCareins and the TD to Cotch)
I think you are wrong, I think Dbrick played good last night, only allowing one sack and that was really the only time he got beaten. He has done alot better to other games and to more experienced tackles.
There were only 2 times where D'Brick stood out to me during last nights game. The sack where he just did not move his feet quick enough and the play where Taylor hit Barlow in the backfield for a loss. I'm still not sure why he didn't block Taylor on that one.
Three for me, those two burns, and on the other side, a devastating pancake on (I believe) Jason Taylor.
I didn't see the pancake block. I need to re-watch the game JUST for that  Seriously though the less you hear from an O-Lineman the better he is playing. I thought he did well last night
Brick has had games where he's struggled. but last night was not one of them. Taylor has made Lt's look silly all year, and aside from his one sack, in which CP should've had the ball gone already, Brick did a very good job. He stood up Taylor on many occassions. Sorry..this has nothing to do w/ what team i root for..but i did not see Brick struggling in the least last night.
We all know Chad is not Mr Velocity , but last nights conditions were horrible for BOTH QBs. The thing which the commentators didn't take into account is that this game was on field turf and they use grit/sand on it and I can only imagine that that shit sticks all over the ball making it really hard to get a grip on it despite the ball boys best efforts to clean them. Once the rain stopped , the 'zip' returned.
I think what happened was Taylor was standing up so Brick read him as a LB and went to go block a down lineman. Still a bad read by him, but I think that's what caused the confusion.
