BYU quarterback Zach Wilson is almost certainly entering the 2021 NFL Draft, and when he does, he’ll be the second-best prospect at the position to Trevor Lawrence. Wilson crystalized that fact in an incredible finale to cap the Cougars’ 11-1 season. Wilson completed 26 of 34 passes for 425 yards and three touchdowns, and also ran for two scores in BYU’s 49-23 victory over UCF in the RoofClaim.com Boca Raton Bowl. I know what you’re thinking. “YOU LAZY BOX SCORE SCOUT!” Right, cool. He threw all over an outmatched opponent in a bowl game. Big deal. It’s not like that. Wilson was and is for real. Justin Fields has nothing on him. Zach Wilson only has 4 turnover-worthy passes on 353 dropbacks this season. Lowest rate in College Football.
He is great at reading defenses, going through his progressions and is very accurate, BudJet. those are the MOST IMPORTANT aspects of being an NFL QB. AND he doesn't have the luxury of playing on a SUPERTEAM that is literally loaded at every position, like TL.
Almost every play the receiver had to make a circus catch...what kind of weak ass consolation prize is this? Jets’ fucked us...we need to deal with it.
Ive already dealt with it thats why im looking ahead to our other options, thats how im dealing with it . Sounds a bit like your the one having trouble dealing with it.
This is a great way for this kid to finish the season. The hype around him will grow in the months before the draft.
Ya, see, he looks really good. It's just a 'best plays' highlight real, so take it for what it is. Of course we'd need to see some plays that came out terrible but this is a good start. Let's say Joe Douglas and his minions do there due diligence and JD decides this kid Zach Wilson could be developed to be as good as Sam. But Would JD burn a high 2nd overall pick on a rookie QB that's similar to the QB he already has? The Answer is yes for two reasons. First, Wilson would be playing on a 4 yr rookie deal totaling around $25M in total for his first 4years. Sam, on the other hand will need his 2021 5th year guaranteed at around $25M, then a new deal at close to that per year (if we're luck). Ya, so Sam will cost JD $100M MORE in cap space vs Wilson for the same 4 years. That' A LOT of cap space that JD can avoid by swapping Sam out for a rookie that will play about as good as Sam. So JD will have to decide: What's more important? The $100M in cap he save by replacing Sam with Wilson, or the high draft picks he can use anywhere by keeping and paying sam. Only JD can answer, but I think he will decide use the draft pick on Wilson and use Wilson to say by by to Sam's second contract. The second reason is Wilson will be Joe Douglas's guy. If/when we win the SB, all GMs want the credit for building the roster that just won a SB ring. If he keeps Sam, JD will always have to share some of the glory with MacCagnan, who drafted Sam in the first place. So summary... if JD sees a new QB that's at least as good as sam and with the potential to go all the way, then ya, JD makes that pick and maybe uses that $100M cap savings on FAs.
Here is why I choose Zach over Sam. 1) cheaper next 4 years. & he's only 21 years old. 2) 33/3 td/int ratio. (Trevor 22/4) 3) 73.5 completion %. (Trevor 69.2) 4) more of a duel threat QB than Sam 5) canon for an arm 6) rushing TD 10 (Trevor 7) Don't get me wrong, I was a big fan of Sams. I own 2 Sam jerseys, but I think it's time for the Jets to move In another direction. Drafting Zach would truly be JD putting his stamp on this team. However I do not want Fields, I would rather Go with Sam. For me it is Zach or bust...If we can't get Trevor.
I don't understand this. Most of his throws were right on the money and placed where defenders couldn't get them. The catches were mostly routine. This guy looks like a good QB. He is definitely worth getting excited about.
There's a photo of him standing next to Drew Brees and he's 3" taller than him....watching this kid play makes me feel much better about losing Lawrence
Love his poise and calmness, makes plays out of nothing, delivers the best deep ball in college, he reminds me of Pat Mahomes
He's got 2 inches on Brees and Brees is barely 6', don't let anyone tell you different. This kid's barely 6'2 and Drew is hunching over a bit in that pic.
