the kid is not an idiot! whether the Jets are incorporated in the vampire state of new york or his brother new jersey,

he is not going to want to go to where a sizable chunk of his salary and bomuses are going to sucked out of his bank account

by a group of corrupt socialists. in florida, he gets to decide how to spend his money.:D

Yeah I can't believe it either. Before the season started I don't think anyone thought we'd be bad enough to compete for TL. But to get all the way to 0-13 and then not finish the job? Indefensible.

The Jags aren't trading the pick and Trevor will play for them if they draft him.

Just curious...what would you have done if you were the owner of the Jets or the GM of the Jets ?

Once it became apparent the Jets were in the driver's seat for the #1 pick I'd have gone to Christopher Johnson and laid out the situation to him and stressed how important it was that we complete the tank. If he would have allowed it, I would have had Gase fired and installed a puppet HC to finish off the tank. Ideally no one would know about this arrangement other than me, the puppet HC, and CJ. I would have paid the puppet HC under the table at the conclusion of the season, assuming he succeeded in leading the team to 0-16. If done correctly I see very little chance the league could have detected this. All comms with the puppet HC regarding "the arrangement" would be done in person, nothing in writing.

I know it's shady but the best franchises in this league are cutthroat. Look at the Patriots, how many times have they been caught cheating? They are a filthy organization but guess what? They play outside of the rules because it works and it helped them become a dynasty for 20 years.

I have mentioned this plenty of times, but I believe that ownership/management believed 100% that we were losing to LA and Cleveland no matter what. Remember, we looked completely outmatched vs. Seattle.

If we made it to the Pats game 0-15, I believe that we would have sat a lot of "sore" starters, possibly even Sam. At that point, it would have been an easy out.

The problem is we literally pulled the biggest upset of the SB era and screwed up big time.

I am actually more optimistic that the Jaguars win vs. Indy because they have a good record vs. them recently and IF Indy has WC locked up...winning the division isn't as big of a deal this year. Jim Irsay is a very involved owner and businessman, he knows what's at stake and he's super competitive--he doesn't want TL in his division.

The Bears is going to be hard for Jacksonville--their defense is very good (maybe Akim Hicks sits) and their offense is on a hot streak....well see but I actually feel better about Indy.

I still think we could very well beat NE.

I agree there would be a way to do it....

I'm not completely convinced that Jacksonville isn't colluding a bit on their "tank". They have a direct line to Marrone right now and he might not even be losing his job after the season--think about all the crazy things they've had happen to lose games this year, they are having a QB competition during the year even though Minshew has been decent and splitting reps, and they have been IRing players left and right....they need TL more than we do. They have no market right now--unfortunately the Jets have rabid group of fans that talk about them all day rain sleet or shine....

I think you are right. They probably figured "don't rock the boat" by getting involved earlier...we "survived" the Raiders game and got destroyed by Seattle.

No way we should have lost to LA.

With the final 3 games....I thought the chances of us winning one of those games were 5% LA Rams.....15% Cleveland Browns......and 80% Patriots. Maybe even 5% Rams....5% Browns.....90% Patriots.

Nobody here thought the Rams would be the speed-bump. Browns....maybe but unlikely.

It was all looking like The Great Belichick Conspiracy in Week 17.:mad:

Are you saying the Jaguars are moving to Charlotte Amalie?

If Douglas had hatched a plan to tank the season, and especially one that involved firing Gase and installing a puppet HC to finish the job, and word of it got out, he'd never work in football again. Regardless of what you think of Gase, firing him because he's trying to win football games is pretty underhanded and goes entirely against what the spirit of the game should be. Douglas did everything that he could within his power to do what people are now saying he should have done all along. He put a team on the field that had 0-16 in their reach. There's no way that he could have gone into the Rams game thinking, after having traveled out to the west coast the week before and watched the team quit on the way to a 40-3 loss, that they would, a week later, become the only winless team in NFL history to beat a team with 9 or more wins and outright win a game in which they were 17 point underdogs. Everyone in the organization, regardless of motive, had to think that the "tank" was definitely in the bag for the Rams and Browns' games. The only question mark, on paper, heading into the final weeks of the season was the Patriots game.

It's hard to go 0-16. You have to really suck to pull that off. It also takes some "luck" to accomplish as well. It didn't roll the Jets' way this time around, if you're looking at it from a pro-tank perspective. But, in all honesty, with a better coaching staff, this team would have even been anywhere within sniffing distance of the #1 pick. We'd be in our usual #6 range.

Thank you for this post. Having an Owner or higher ups demand coaches and players to tank to get a favorable draft pick would leak to the press and destroy the organization. It's hard to trust a coach who will be fired, and players who will be cut or allowed to walk. They will talk to the media and leak all kinds of info. The owners dont want that headache lol.
There is nothing remotely close abt this Jets team that suggests they are or will tank. They should've won a game or 2 before the Rams game. I would not be surprised if we win another game.
The difference has been having a improved oline play and getting starting WRs back. The jets offense has looked much better compared to where they were in the beginning of the year. We literally did not have a starting caliber WR besides Crowder, we were started Hogan for goodness sake lol.
I dont see The Jets tanking which is fine. I have a good feeling abt our GM and think he has a gameplan.

If the Jets truly were tanking, you'd have never seen Crowder, Mims, or Perriman return from their various injuries. There was no point where we were more "in on the tank" than when Darnold was throwing to a group of receivers that featured Hogan and Berrios as the #1 and #2.

On the other side of this though, there could be something positive from the Colts playing the Jags hard for playoff position. The Jags could go in on a 14 game losing streak. At that point players really want a win, just like the Jets did. If they face a hyped up Indy team it might cause the Jags to take it to another level. The Jags are that team the Colts struggle with and if they play with fire it could be a problem for the Colts.

Jacksonville papers noting that the Jax executives were showing "restrained enthusiasm", the Mayor of Jax thanking the Jets, and a business deal that Khan wants with the city could be helped by Lawrence's presence.

    Check out Gene Frenette's column.

Suppose the Jags pick Wilson instead of Lawrence??

Wouldn’t that be something? Certainly wouldn’t count on it though as I don’t think it’s possible that the Jags could hire someone at GM that stupid.

I would say them winning one of these next two is more likely.
