There is no guarantee any other QB is better than Darnold. Justin Fields? Do we really know if he’s a sure thing. At this point, I’d call this the Steph curry syndrome. Sign Darnold to a very friendly 3-4 year extension and trade pick 2 for a haul. Cowboys and Fields?
I'm all for the trade, but more because I don't believe in Fields than actual belief in Darnold. Plus this team needs a fucking lot more than just the QB. If they could get a mini Herschel Walker type haul for the #2 OA I'd do that in a heartbeat.
We do need some kind of insurance at QB. I'm not a fan of Fields though. I say trade down a few picks, pick up an OL with our first pick, pick up Kyle Trask from UF with the pick we get from the Seahawks. I've been impressed with him. Then, keep Sam for his final year and see what he can do behind a new coach. If he succeeds, we franchise him for 2022. If not, we have Trask.
As sad as it is to go 1-15, I'm OK if we lose the #1 overall pick. I have REAL concerns that Lawrence would have pulled a "Manning" and not sign with us. I think it is/was a legit concern and if we were at #1, I don't think we would have had many trade partners because the league would have the same impression. Falling to #2 in the draft, could be more beneficial to the team as we could trade that pick away and stockpile more picks. I don't want to move down too far, because I FIRMLY believe WR- Devonta(sp) Smith is a MAN amongst boys in college and will be a STUD in the NFL. Then GM Joe needs to do his research on the QB's and see if anyone is worth taking mid to late 1st rd(we could trade back into the 1st by using our 2022 1st rd pick of Sea as trade bait), or stick with Sam, after you give Sam- Smith, Mims, Crowder to throw to next year. Right now, it's beneficial if J. Fields starts to play better in the CFP, then we could have more trade partners at #2.
A lot depends on how the rest of the season goes for Sam. Would definitely like to trade out at this point (especially with Fields game yesterday)
The decision to trade the #2 will obviously be dependent on what kind of demand there is for the pick and if Jets still have confidence in Darnold moving forward. Jets still could land #1, so all this talk is obviously premature. The move here would be to draft Fields and move Darnold, since the entire offense is being rebuilt.
Call the Bengals and tell them we're taking Sewell unless they make us an offer. A good one. Then offer the #3 pick to QB needy teams picking between 7-10. Get a haul and beef up the two guard positions, a wide receiver and a RB. Next season is last chance saloon for Sam. If he flames out we still have two first rounders the year after to get a QB. If he becomes the QB we thought we'd drafted, use a first rounder on a RT to replace Fant.
I think trading down is best. I'm not sold on any of the QBs yet we could get. the more picks will help a lot. If pitts falls to us with the seattle pick i'd take him. I want walker little in the 3rd. the trade down could net us an extra 2nd this year and i'd be willing to take a flyer on kyle trask. lets not forget about james morgan as well. that's 2 Qbs for us to develop and sam can get another year to see if he makes a leap with a new HC and system and a decent team around him
my only issue is I don't see many QB needy teams and with fields and wilson both being close in grades and lance rising not sure we'd get a kings ransom for the 2nd pick if a team wants a QB. right now it's basically us, jax (taking lawerence 1st), chi (16th curently), maybe dallas if they don't resign dak (8th), SF (12th), NE (15th), not a lot of QB needy teams picking high
We need to trade up for Lawrence. This is such a fucked situation because the Jags don’t even have a GM to deal with... who is it going to be? Kahn? Marrone? Who knows... I’m just praying they like Fields and are willing to deal Lawrence to us.
Your kidding right??No one is going to trade away Lawrence a generational quarterback no one...Who would want that egg on their face... perhaps the only way that could happen is if Lawrence said I don’t wanna go to Jacksonville I rather go to New York and the cost I don’t even want to think about
Take the QB or take a WR if you can't trade down. Fuck taking Sewell. Yes, the dude is really good, but the tackles are not the issue on the Jets OL. The issue on the OL are the two guard spots, which can be plugged via FA (Thuney) or the end of the 1st, early 2nd. Take Chase and run.
We have 3 full seasons of evidence on Sam. What he does in these last two games should be almost meaningless to our assessment of him. The bulk of the evidence on Sam says he's a bottom 5 QB in the NFL and probably bottom 2-3. I'm not very high on Fields or Wilson but how much worse could they be than bottom 2-3 in the league? We aren't going anywhere without a better QB.
Correct answer. IF Justin Jefferson, the clear #2 at LSU last year, had over 1,000 yards for Minnesota. Just imagine what Chase will do here.
