It shows more often then not, you have to hit rock bottom in this league before you become a good or should I say playoff contender. Browns, cardinals, 49rs, Bills, & on & on. It takes a few years...& a good coach to pull the team out of there hell. This next HC will be the most important piece to our puzzle. Look at what teams in past turned around their team with a good coach. This will be the most important year since Parcells took over for Kotite . Good GM, New coach, new QB, lots of cap $, good Draft capital, & yes....WE HAVE HIT ROCK BOTTOM. It could be a recipe for success if we play our cards right.
Maybe it's because I've had a few beers, but I feel a strange pride in achieving longest playoff drought and 0-16 in the same season. That's true commitment.
Is this a euphemism for fucking cocks? If not it should be as it is perfect. (you still call your cocks johnsons don't you? or at least some of you lol)
Johnsons still make crazy cash from the team so it really doesn't matter if we make the playoffs or not. They get paid either way.
Revenue sharing still means the Johnsons get paid. It is impossible for any owner in the NFL to lose money. Give it a name...
How bad does the Jim Caldwell firing look in Detroit at the moment? Man took the Lions to the playoffs twice in 4 years and went 9-7 the year he got fired. Yeah he lost in the playoffs but the Lions were competitive under him and have dropped back into the loser category under Patricia who was fired a few weeks ago. Caldwell has coached 7 years in the NFL, making the playoffs 4 times and the only bad season on his record is the 2-14 tank in Indy when Peyton got hurt. He got fired at the end of that tank season, went to the Lions and made the playoffs there twice in three seasons before a disappointing 9-7 (!) got him fired after the 2017 season. His coaching record is marred by 4 first round exits in the playoffs and a loss in the Super Bowl but overall he's 62-50 in the NFL and without the tank season he's 60-36. Not saying he would be a good guy for the Jets at all but he's probably the best NFL head coach not currently coaching. He did very well with the Colts and the Lions given the talent he got to work with.
Worst stretch of football in Jets history at this point, I think. 0-16 would be a hell of a way to cap it off.
For me it is on par with 1971-1980. That was a brutal stretch that is ingrained in my memory because I was so young when it started and not yet 21 when the horrible run ended in 1981. Basically the Jets sucked for my entire childhood.
Same. Their best season when I was a kid was an 8-8 playoff appearance and exit in round 1. Houston Oilers I think? Edit: Looks like it’s a tie with 70-80. If the Jets miss the playoffs next season they’ll establish a new low.
I agree, except that for me, the Jets were really fun to watch during the prime Namath years. That's what cemented my attachment to them. What truly boggle my mind is that they could fail to put together anything sustainable and win a championship in over 50 years. I mean even if you tried to do that it would be almost impossible. And it's awful that they haven't been able to build on that great, early legacy.
I never thought I'd say this, but this recent 2011-2020, especially if topped off by a 0-16, is worse than the 71-80 period. In the first part of the 70s, we at least had the excuse of Namath's injuries to explain '70, '71 and '73. The three straight 3-11s in '75, '76 and '77 was a real low point, and that, along with crappy seasons by the Giants during that time, explains why a lot of NY fans in their 50s are Steelers, Dolphins, Cowboys etc fans. But '78 and '79 were promising and had the beginning foundations of the successful (although disappointing) mid-80s teams. I'm sorry, but I don't see Lawrence as the savior to lead us out of this mess. I want to like Joe Douglas, but our hires and drafts for the past ten years have been awful, and we don't have the talent to be competitive anytime soon. I've been a fan since '65 and a STH since '83. I'm not giving up, but after the last 10 years of futility I'm giving up my tickets.
