The Raiders had no time outs. They did not have time for Carr to get a 1st down and two more, or any more, cracks at the end zone.

It was as stupid of a play call I've seen in many years. Even stupider when you consider he was leaving an undrafted free agent in man to man coverage like that.

Not the hero we want, but the hero we needed yesterday.

1st overall pick may happen because of that play alone.

I think management wanted to keep him, but many players are probably fed up and that play may have pushed some over the edge.

RIP to probably a play that will be talked about for a long long time

If we get the 1st Pick the Jets should put up a statue with Williams, Ruggs and Jackson.

In 3 years when we win the Super Bowl with Trevor Lawrence, Gregg Williams will still be the MVP

In this situation, with one play left and the raiders needing a TD, prevent with 4 guys at the 10 yard line was the right call

    no question

I generally hate prevent defenses outside of this type of situation....I hate when teams go into prevent with 3 minutes left.
But in this case, anyone would tell you prevent was the call.

I get that our D was pressuring pretty good...he took a gamble that we’d get to Carr before he could make the throw...but it was the wrong call

all that being said, I think it’s fucking laughable that the guy who is IN CHARGE OF THE WHOLE TEAM and the guy who HAS LED US TO 0-12 is still employed while we fire the DC.

    it is sheer fucking insanity

only the Johnsons and the Browns could be SO FUCKING STUPID

They could have run a sideline route using Waller who was unstoppable yesterday for the first down. If not, a quick formation and spike would have given them at least one more play. It didn't matter who was left covering who. The rush was a bid to get Carr and win the game outright. Calling a play is one thing, executing it is another. Jets failed to execute on this play.

Sorry, Jeff, but that's just not true. To begin with the statement, "is was the first all out blitz in that situation in 15 seasons" shows that it HAS happened before. Williams is known for blitzing. I saw that numerous times on twitter last night. The Jets pressure was getting to Carr most, if not all, of the 4th Qtr. I can understand Williams thinking going with an all-out blitz would succeed. He couldn't have known that Waller would stay in to block. Waller had killed us the whole game. If Waller had run a route, I don't think any two of our DBs could have stopped him from catching the ball. It didn't work, so he was wrong, but if it had succeeded, people would have been saying that he was a genius today,

Nope, could not disagree more. There are times when taking a chance makes sense, and this wasn't one of them. There was virtually no chance they could lose the game if they had enough defensive backs at or near the goal line. It was ego and stupidity and recklessness. Add in the fact that the Jets almost lost the game on the previous play on a zone blitz, and you understand why people thought (still think?) that it was a deliberate attempt to lose the game.

And the 15 years is only because that's as far back as the detailed data goes, so there's no telling if it happened before then anyway., but that's totally besides the point. You should never run a cover 0 blitz when giving up a long touchdown results in you being guaranteed to lose the game. It's just utter madness.

I've said that I didn't agree with the call, and that it was a bad call, could just understand why he did it.

100% disagree. There were 13 seconds left when the play started. Prevent defense was the only play there. Williams deserved to be fired after that call. Also, the DB should never had let the WR get behind him. Williams had to make that perfectly clear to all the DB's in that situation.

In a completely rational sane universe do the Jets try to win a game this season?

    If you think so, why?

I can't see an argument for attempting to win another game this season.

I do see a very good argument for going to a weighted draft order for the first 5 or 6 picks moving forward however. Give the worst record 6 balls, the second worst 5, the third worst 4, the fourth worst 3, the fifth worst 2 and the sixth worst 1 ball. That's a 28.57% chance at the top pick and a 23.8% chance for the #2 team to get the top pick. Nobody is going to tank fight over an additional 4.5% chance at the top pick, certainly not to 0-16 or 1-15 or whatever.

I’d love to see the NFL create a second league for a number of reasons, one of which is relegation. I know that logistically it’s pretty much impossible because if the NFL could do it and make money on it they already would be.

The WR was able to get behind the DB because the Oakland O line gave him enough time to do so. Jackson had to guard against the quick pass for a 1st down as his primary task and he did so by going for the WR's quick out move. The Jets pass rush should not have allowed the WR the time to get behind Jackson but it did because Oakland pick up the blitz. If the Jets had played prevent, Oakland would have probably picked up a 1st down and used up about 3 seconds extending the game which Williams was trying to avoid. Admittedly, Williams call was a gamble, but I don't fault him for trying to seal a victory for a 0-11 team on that play.

It was a terrible call, but no way was it a deliberate attempt to lose the game. If Williams wanted to lose on purpose, he would have let the Raiders score on their previous possession. And if Gase was in on it too, the offense wouldn't have scored 15 unanswered in the 4th quarter.

Did we forget the play before where Carr missed a Wide Open receiver. Two plays in row a receiver got behind
    the defense.
