From an ownership standpoint, I would guess that it’s because Woodys coming back and the org never fires a coach midseason. Also it was quite apparent that they saw this season to be a lost one with covid and without fans. I am sure Gase is telling them to give him a chance with a healthy Darnold and receivers to see what he can do. Douglas won’t try push his friend out the door at least during the middle of an already lost season and it gives him a better draft to rebuild the team anyway.
We're tanking, 1000% Why risk ruining the tank and firing Gase only to let someone walk in or takeover trying to prove himself and start winning? This season is lost. Ride Gase out until the end.
People need to stop saying this is for the tank. Gase is clearly trying to win these games to save his ass. If they were really about the tank Gase woulda been fired weeks ago and noggains would be the coach.
This. Gase give us the best chance to win AT THIS POINT. Our oline is finally staring to jell, our weapons are finally on the field, and Sam is about to return from injury. If we started over NOW with a new HC, new offense, new defense, etc, THAT would be for the tank.
As each week passes with Gase as the HC, it becomes more concerning that he's going to remain the HC. I am hoping that it's just because the Johnsons don't want to fire a HC mid-season (as if that proves anything to anyone). Maybe they're waiting for Woody to return to wield the axe and take the onus off his brother who hired the "genius" in the first place. Whatever the reason, I sure hope it's not because they want to keep him.
Because firing Gase at this point won’t make this season a successful season and could potentially hinder future success. and this thread proves there are, indeed, stupid questions.
I agree with this, but I also think Gase is trying his best to win. I don't like that. I'd rather fire him and promote an Interim Coach who is in on the tank, unless Gase actually is in on the tank. If so, keep it rolling!
there are 2 reasons, the organization doesnt like to fire guys mid season. they have not at this point in the 20 years or so they have owned the team fired someone during the season. they are still paying bowles right now, they have no interest in paying 3 guys to be the head coach of a team that is this bad. i assume if they promote someone to interim that they will im sure get quite a pay raise. the scary thought that they may actually believe he is the guy to right the ship with douglas. as crazy as it sounds to us i could see it happening. after all they were dumb enough to hire him and then make him a part of hiring the gm. my god we need a new owner. these guys are morons.
He's still the coach because he's the best guy to get us to 0-16. Williams, for all his faults, would get a win or two out of this group.
Mainly because the Jets never fire coaches midseason. Gase giving us the best chance at tanking probably plays a role as well.
I like how everyone keeps saying because the Jets do not fire coaches mid season. News flash no team typically fires a coach mid season, it happens very rarely in the NFL. There are few circumstances where it is really warranted. This, however, is one of those rare circumstances. The longer we wait. The more damage we are doing to the current young players on this roster and the franchise in general.
I think it is for three reasons: 1. Money - The Johnsons don't want to pay an interim coach more money. They will already be on the hook for 2 more years of Gase which has to piss them off to no end. Paying him for 2.5 years of doing nothing might seem even worse to them. 2. Embarrassment and Ego. They are not ready yet to admit how badly they F---ed up. 3. They don't like firing a coach mid season as it is considered bad form and might make it harder to hire new coaches. Although with Gase I do not think this applies as I doubt there is anyone that does not think he should be fired. Mainly it is money and ego.
