Ur right of course. So now I'm thinking if we get Trevor, let Trevor and Sam battle it out in TC (if there is one).

Let Sam start and let Trevor learn. Then, at some point in the season (or just after), trade Sam then (instead of now). Trevor would have a year to learn, and Sam would have a year with a better oline and new weapons to showcase his stuff. If that all happens and Sam does surprisingly well with the new team, we could maybe get a 1st for him.

Starting to agree with the idea of keeping Sam even if we draft Trevor. Clearly can't pick up his fifth year option, but you are going to need a veteran backup anyway so Sam will be on his 4th year and would serve as a more than capable backup when the keys are handed over to Trevor. I am ALL FOR letting Trevor sit a bit next year and watching a bit, even if that means 4 games. Ease the pressure a little of him having to be the savior from Day 1. Maybe Sam shows well with a new coaching staff and less pressure on him and becomes a much more tradeable asset to a QB needy team that has an early injury. Trading Sam this offseason is the epitome of selling low and that wouldn't make much sense.

Minshew has made Darnold look like Drew Brees the past few weeks

I don't think that Minshew is playing in this game, he has a broken thumb on his right hand. It got broken in the beginning of the season, maybe in their second game, but he didn't tell coaches about it. It has been bothering him since then. It might also explain why his game has not been that good this year.
The Jags are starting some 6th round rookie named Jake Luton. So probably a Texans win then.

You are correct. I forgot about his broken hand.... BUT I dont think it's really why. Dude isnt seeing the field well at all.... but when he does he's missing guys bad (that can be due to his hand)

I have several good friends that are Jags fans (the local team)..... theyre all rooting for the JETS to win ;)

    .

    Are you kidding me???

That is simply, false. Big time.

Gardner Minshew ll is more than 2x the QB Sam has ever been and statistical production wise? Jet fans would die to see Sam putting up the types of numbers that this Minshew kid is putting up (both this year and last year, too).

    Minshew (2020):
    176/267 (65.9%).
1,855 Passing Yards (265 per game).
    13 TDs/5 INTs.
    25 rushers/122 rushing yards/1 rushing TD.
QB Rating of 94.4 (Sam is @ 65.9, lol).

So, what are you talking about? Minshew also had a much better season than Sam did last year and if anything isn't making Sam look like "Drew Brees" he's making Sam look like, Ryan Leaf.

And over the past 4 games Minshew has posted QB Ratings of 101.1, 94.0, 70.5 and 96.7 with 7 TD's/2 INTs and 1,068 passing yards...

Compared to Sam over his past 4 games has only posted QB Ratings of 47.0, 70.5, 31.1 and 70.6 with 1 TD/5 INTs and only 651 passing yards...

Jets fans massively overrate Darnold. There is basically no tangible evidence that he's even a decent QB and we still have droves of fans who think he's good. Just pure delusion.

I have said similar things, and in theory, I still like that idea, but realistically speaking, will the new HC, OC and QB coach really have time or the inclination to work with 3 QBs (Don't forget Morgan)? Don't forget that there is extremely limited contact through the offseason, and even with OTAs, mini-camps, and training camp, that doesn't leave a lot of time when one is installing a new offensive system, developing chemistry between the starting QB his OL and receivers, and preparing for the season. If they're having to spread their attention 2-3 ways, then whoever winds up starting could be less prepared than they normally would be, and their play suffer. Also, what if Sam starts and plays just well enough that you hesitate to bench him even though Lawrence looks ready. Are you really going to waste a year of Lawrence's career by making him sit and watch Sam play? Are you going to risk splitting the team and the fanbase and causing a QB controversy? Also, if you do that, the media and a lot of the fanbase are going to be in an uproar wanting to know why Lawrence isn't playing or why the Jets didn't trade down or take JaMarr Chase instead. When you take a QB #1 in the draft, the expectation is that he has to start day one unless he's injured.

Did the Chiefs waste a year of Mahomes career?

Maybe. Even though I loved Mahomes and thought him a great QB prospect, most didn't. Don't forget that he played against lesser competition at Texas Tech. Lawrence has played against great teams every year and played on the big stage. Mahomes also wasn't the #1 pick in the draft. That's a HUGE difference.

It could be a Drew Brees Phillip Rivers situation. Only that shoulder injury kept Brees from staying with SD.

I look at it differently - the fact that Lawrence played with much higher rated players around him than Mahomes had makes it harder to truly evaluate him.

Realistically speaking a lot of what you raise as questions is not insurmountable and may actually be beneficial rather than a problem. Every single one of those guys is going to need the best QB coach money can buy but it shouldn't be a problem to spread the attention where it's needed most, both by the players and by the team. Hell, maybe bringing in one of those QB whisperers for the OTAs and mini camp is a good idea. What needs to be done is to treat these guys as assets rather than tools to puff up a bad coach's ego.

The tone of your answer comes across that you've already carved the depth chart in stone when all the ingredients haven't even been bought. How about letting the depth chart create itself by what these guys can do? Who cares about controversy when competition is healthy? You know no one from the Jets cares about the customers anyway. Every guy on the team has had to compete for his job - are they really going to be more pissed that someone gets a pass or that they have to compete too? You play to win the game; that means you play the guy who gives you the best chance to win the game regardless what anyone might have as expectations.

If the new CS has the inclination and time, great! That would be better for the Jets. I'm not convinced that they will have either.

I'm all about competition. If we keep Darnold and he beats out Lawrence for the starting job, fine. I was just against the idea of definitely starting Sam and making Lawrence sit for a year or a pre-determined length of time.

I'd hate the idea of Lawrence sitting behind Sam.

A.) Sam Darnold is not Brett Favre in terms of Aaron sitting behind Favre/Trevor sitting behind Sam etc because Sam is the worst Quarterback within the entire NFL and I don't want Trevor learning jack squat behind him.

B.) It'll become a Sanchez/Tebow type of Rex Ryan media circle and I can't stomach another one of those.

If we land Trevor? Regardless if it's for a 2nd round pick or a 5th round pick you get what you can get from Sam and move on (be done with him).

I can't believe Sanchez was 11 years ago - wow time flies when you are not having fun

I am glad that you feel able to ditch this useless franchise - I have been following the Jets for about 35 years now and in that time there have been a handful of enjoyable games and a couple of decent seasons and that is it - I wish I could switch allegiances to another franchise but unfortunately my fandom isn't built that way and it has left me completely jaded and defeated (again, a bit like this club)
