HC: All right, we're going up against that monster rookie Becton this week. How can we confuse him?

DC: Doesn't he play on the Jets?

HC: Oh yeah! Hahaha. Just do whatever.

To me he doesn’t pass the eye test. Looks like he hits hole with no burst. But could be cause he has hesitation because still not comfortable with the offense. Compared to Gaskin and even ty Johnson, it was more than noticeable the difference in speed and burst between them and Perine last week. He was 4th round pick, so would be a extremely high expectation that he will be a impact feature back. Considering many draft experts had him going later in the draft. Sometimes college does not translate in NFL. But like you say there is a chance.

That's a stretch...where does he rank on those detailed ranking charts and where are the other 3 tackles taken in the 1st round ?

None of the other three rookies have been rated nearly as high, nor have they looked as dominant as Becton.

I saw that the average "Pass Win Rate" on passing plays for tackles (or maybe all OL) was about 85% and that Thomas was in the 40's on Thursday night !!

  7. While RB is the easiest transition to the NFL from college, the 2 biggest adjustments are A.Pass blocking B quickness to the hole

For whatever reason,it takes some young RBs alittle while to learn the right footwork into the hole & as a result theyre ever so hesitant w their movements which gets exposed in the NFL.I was at the game where Bilal Powell got his first real action. I zero’d in on him reallly closely & he was dreadfully slow to the hole. By next season he was just as quick as he had been at Louisville.

Perine projects as a good rotational guy bc he blocks well & can catch ball out of the backfield. He can make guys miss & if he has his burst which runs hot/cold he can make some big plays. Hes not a feature back however

Sounds like a guy you’d want to pair with Harris...

but here we are getting ahead of ourselves. Nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing matters until we get a new head coach.

  9. Not sure if he’ll declare but Javante Williams from UNC has a nice blend of bruising size, burst & athleticism. He gets to the second level effortlessly & is not an easy guy to tackle in the open field. He’d pair nicely w Perine as well

Do you think Gainwell from Memphis would pair nicely with Perine?

How about Sewell -- how does he rate ? Solid tackle prospect or generational, Anthony Munoz-type ?

What about Leatherwood (though AL tackles scare me) and Cosmi ? Radunz ? Mayfield ?

Could add Lawrence AND one of those tackles.

He is a rookie and wants to play .....the better question is why is the organization letting him play and risking his future??

Not going to pile on him because he had a good start to his career. But Becton did not have a good game today by any stretch. He jumped outside and got beaten pretty badly for a sack. And at least two penalties by my count. To be fair to him the illegal formation thing is absolute bullshit.

  16. Yeah I could see that.

Both can catch the ball out of the back field.Perine a better blocker, more shifty than so elusive & more of an inside runner.Gainwell more of an elusive slasher & a home run threat on every carry.

Though think team would still want a 3rd back w some power for certain opponents as well as short yardage, goalline & closing out games.

  17. Sewell will go top 5 possibly top 3.He’s the real deal.Violent hands, good hips & exceptional agility on the move.

As others have said interior is the area team needs to target. There are some good ones that are late day 1 early day 2 types.

    Leatherwood(Best served kicking inside)
Trey Smith Tenn ( Massive upside)
Creed Humphrey OU (C or Guard.Special talent)

Wyatt Davis from OSU has a great pedigree & reputation. Many on TGG are high on him. Not all that impressed w him physically or individually as a blocker. He bends well, has some nastiness & executes his assignment. Not all that impressive w his punch, feet or movement. But hes def another to keep an eye on

Jeez, we really do not need someone called Wyatt on the Jets...

Yeah that’s the puzzling thing. These guys can’t get anything out of the lineman we had last year, or this year, but they developed a rookie?

If we hadn't moved up and taken Sam, we'd have drafted Quenton Nelson @ #6.
