Amen. It will be fun to cheer for a winning team led by Sam, which any of those 4 would be instantly. In fact, most teams would succeed with Sam.
Except for the fact that Bridgewater had already proven he could be a successful quarterback. Darnold hasn't.
He was traded to back up Brees and most people thought he was a low end starter...given the circumstances of the Jets being a clown show there will be a team who thinks they can turn him into a good starter with higher upside then Bridgewater....it's exactly what Miami did with Rosen and Rosen showed much less upside.
Trading Sam is one of the most idiotic things I have ever read in my life. Clark Kent could not prosper with the absolute offensive garbage that Sam has been forced to work with, both in terms of personnel and coaches. How's about we surround this man with some NFL caliber players, and a competent coaching staff first before we do the Jetsy thing and trade away a potential FQB and start over? It's like the cat keeps chasing it's tail year after year.
I'm not sure what "most people" thought about Bridgewater. Was he really a "low end starter" or a guy coming off a serious injury? Right now, Sam Darnold is at the bottom end of low end starters. If Bridgewater was still on the roster I believe he would be starting today.
I think a lot will depend on who the Jets appoint as their next Head Coach, when will finally get rid of Gase. Will the new man want to start afresh with a new Q/B or will he see something in Darnold that he thinks he can work with? Only time will tell but we have to get rid of Gase first!
And no one is taking into account the cap ramifications. Cheap rookie deal based on current salary cap vs $25 million option year for Darnold year 2 , now fully guaranteed under the new CBA assuming the Jets extend him this off season. I dont know which makes him more appealing,1 year or 2 with the big cap hit. I take the rookie every day and finish building under his rookie contract vs his option /second contract
Always a couple of dumb decisions per game with Darnold to go along with a couple great plays and you're left not knowing WTF you have.
If the Jets do win the Lawrence sweep stakes, i think they would get a 4-5 fo4 Darnold at this clip. If he progresses back to last year... i could see getting a 2nd or 3rd potentially from a desperate team.
I'm a 40 year fan of this franchise, and this is my first post on this forum. What the Jets did after drafting Darnold was akin to football malpractice. No serious investment in O line til this year,no investment in any serious weapons. Heck, the Baltimore Ravens revamped their entire offense after taking Lamar Jackson,to exploit his strengths. Sam should not be in one of these dink and dunk diagonal west coast offenses that Gase uses. He should be in a downfield, off play action mold QB,like Rivers,or what Eli was. The best I've seen Sam play was the last 5 or 6 games or so of his rookie year under OC Jeremy Bates. I remember both JJ Watt and Aaron Rodgers saying what a good QB they thought he was going to be. At this point,I fear getting rid of Gase probably wont be enough. They will draft a QB,hopefully Trevor Lawrence.
Of course he did. I bought his jersey too. I will never buy another jersey. The last one I bought before his was Browning Nagle. How did he turn out? Sent from my SM-G986U using Tapatalk
Darnold isnt gonna bring back much in a trade at this point.Adam Gase has ruined our QB!!That pick six was so bad....He has no one to throw to.
Sam's "great plays" are completely overblown. Look at his YPA and YPG numbers over his career. They aren't good. Sam isn't some Jameis Winston type who throws for 350 yards 3 TD's and 3 INT's per game. Sam is basically Winston without the big yard and TD numbers.
