Are we kidding with this thread? It’s been two games people - we’re really going to trash a draft class off two games and complaining that people are hurt when every team in the NFL has more then the usual injuries? Douglas is obviously playing a long game here - just let it play out.

Gase isn’t helping thing ride along the way

Way too early to give final grades to the draft class.

Kahlil and other small moves are too insignificant to complain about.

Not getting receiver help in free agency, even now, is a problem, not a real big one.

Losing Adams is a problem. A problem today and for the future.

Losing Anderson is a problem. A problem today and for the future.

Anyone calling for Douglas to be on the hot seat is in denial about how bad of a situation the franchise was in when he took over. We essentially struck out in the draft for a dozen straight years before JD got to have his first draft. He's done a good job so far. I'm patient and I'm not expecting miracles overnight. Douglas is thinking big picture and long term. He's not sticking one-year stop-gap bandaids on this franchise. He's going to build this team in the trenches outward, through the draft, so there is a solid foundation. He saw how the Ravens were built for 15 years and how a Super Bowl champion was built in Philadelphia. He's going to try to replicate that here. I want this team to be a perennial contender, not a team that has a 10-6 season once a decade on the strength of veteran free agents, then have to start over again two years later when they're all past their prime (see the 2015 Jets).

Douglas showed some craftiness on draft night, trading down in the 2nd to still get a second-tier WR, while adding another pick. He drafted for need (OL, WR, pass rusher). The Adams situation wasn't ideal but five years from now I think we'll look back on it as a good move. Two 1st rounders and we don't have to pay a box safety $16m in the middle of a rebuild. Even though the SEA picks are late 1sts, you can find elite WRs or interior lineman there.

Becton looks like a monster, a home run of a pick at one of the game's most important positions.

Can we see Mims first before we freak out? The guy was never injured in college. Half the damn skill players in the NFL this year have hamstring issues. Let's all take a deep breath. There is no doubt that part of not resigning Robby was that we'd take a big deep threat in the draft. Also, let's be real, with Gase's offense Robby wouldn't be doing much here anyway. Even if Mims isn't great, these days WR is by far the deepest position. We can find a guy in the 2nd round or with one of the Seattle picks and I'm sure JD will continue to focus on finding Darnold (or whoever our future QB is) more weapons.

The obvious problem is Gase. He has to go. Hopefully Douglas can pressure Chris Johnson into making the right move in January. Let Douglas choose his own coach and continue to add his own players and we'll be in a good spot before we know it.

Douglas doesn’t have to criticize Gase, everyone who pays attention to the NFL is doing it for him.

Back office politics exist and so far I think Douglas is doing a decent job with it. He’s gotten some flack in the press for the WR situation, but the target is painted squarely on Gases back, right where Douglas would want it to be.

I think he’s playing his hand pretty well so far.

You'd be kidding yourselves if you thought this was a complete job in ONE offseason. When in reality, this team had so many holes, it was ridiculous and there was no way he could solve them in the short amount of time that he did. I do commend him for the OL overhaul, which I feel has been better already then last year's OL. Becton is well on his way to becoming a franchise LT. I still do like the draft picks although besides Mann and Becton, they haven't done much. But it's still way too early. This is a process...time to evaluate this roster and to tinker with it even more. The draft capital is there, the talent will come, the skill positions will improve because simply it can't get no worse now. These things take time...be patient.

After Idzik and Mac (sorry for the foul language everybody) effed the Jets in the A maybe we should give JD a bit of slack. Who else was jumping for joy to be GM of the Jets? Sorry about that I just realized that some Jet fans would be complaining about who ever took this job. One of my all time favorite post on this board sums it up perfectly. “A Jet fan could find a bag of $20 bills and complain it wasn’t $50’s”

In the (kind of) words of John Lennon:
“All we are saying is give Joe a chance”

    PS
We all know that life as a Jet fan is hard but that is what we signed up for!

Ok. Fair enough. I really think that Becton picks as a home run and a great call so props to him. Also, glad he traded Jamal. I think he’s done well with management but will keep an open question on his drafting., Too half first round picks should be easier. But I am just saying, let’s see these rookies perform because some are injury prone already and at this point is all we have to look forward to . Let’s check back in a few weeks.

Some are not injury prone. That's ridiculous! Checking back in a few weeks is equally ridiculous. Do you not understand anything about football?

I was about 7 years old, so I don’t think I signed up for this or at least I had no clue it was going to be like this.

Sorry fellow NYJs fan Joe appears to fall into not to smart classification IMHO his play last off season was to trade Sam if tradeable for a #1 if obtainable. He appears at least to me he does have the brains or foresight to see ahead sorry to say

We didn’t have to take becton - could have gone wr or the tackle that Tampa took. He choose becton and deserves credit for it.

Alright then. Enjoy watching Peirre Desier, Nate Harrison, and Josh Malone play. Our drafting for 2020 is still in question and that’s all I’m saying. You draft players to make an impact and play. i support JD. Check back in a few weeks.

  15. People can say everything couldnt be fixed yr 1 tilll they are blue in the face.

But it cannot be argued that certain positions needed to be prioritized in order to help Sam.IT DOES NOT END w JUST OL! Even after the OL moves there was plenty of assets & opportunities to better address WR. He cheaped out on RA/Perriman & only drafted 1 guy.

Any way you slice it...a yr & a half into his tenure Weapons around Sam are STILL the worst in the league.Obviously most of you are ok w this.Im not.

im so disgusted w this group around Sam im not opposed to firing JD.And i dont wanna hear all the rationalization. Its a crime whats been done to Sam.

Spot on. Funny... the Bills managed to fix their OL and skill position problems in one offseason last year. Then this year they were able to build around Allen even more.

The Bills figured it out. THE BILLS. WITH JOSH ALLEN. That should put into perspective how unbelievably terrible we have handled the Sam situation and Douglas shares part of the blame.

Again, my only two qualms. One, we don’t know if Darnold is our guy. I really think we should trade a 3rd for Allen Robinson or someone at that level so we can at least make an informed decision if we need to draft Trevor.

two, we’ve drafted an entire group of guys who are somehow ALL injured except Becton. Davis is now out too.

but, I like JD for the roster management of Adams, cap space, etc. we have a bright future but we haven’t answered anything on Sam and our rookies are cupcakes thus far. That’s my only point.

let’s see how next years draft class goes too!

The Bills were in a far better position personnel wise when they drafted JA than the Jets were when they drafted SD. This roster was in such bad shape that JD had no choice but to pick thru the trash and start over. I advised folks waay back not to expect anything from 2020. One thing that is lacking in Jets Nation is patience mostly because we've been lied to for so long by the FO and Ownership.

JD asked for and got a 6yr contract for a reason and he was right. One offseason just isn't enough to plug a roster with more holes than a colander. If by '22 or '23 we're still watching this shit show, then yeah, its time to light a fire under JD's ass but it will also be the time to direct all our fire directly at the Johnsons. This of course is dependent on Gase not being HC by then.

Chris Johnson being the dumbass we know he is, just might extend Gase another 3 yrs just for "continuity".

We don’t know if Darnold is our guy because we’ve failed him miserable for three straight years. Should a franchise QB rise above some of that? Maybe, and probably. But we’ve given him not a single iota of help outside of a competent LT surrounded by a below average OL which is unfortunately a step up.
