Mike McCarthy was a no brainer and the Jets fucked it up. Whoever the next coach is, he will not be the guy either.
Where is Bill Parcells? Old school or not he'd bring respectability and accountability. Too old now however.
They need someone like him. Someone who sets the team up according to what he has rather than shoehorning guys into play roles for which they are unfit. Someone whose attitude is that nobody on the team is special; do your job and produce or hit the bricks. Someone who knows how to find the right guys in places where nobody else is looking. Those are the guys who win. Teams need a personnel guy; a builder. Do I have anyone in mind? Not a fucking clue, to be honest. But hopefully Joe Douglas would.
I agree with compiling a list of potential candidates, but in no way should he put any "feelers" out there. Things do not stay confidential. They always leak out. That's the last thing the Jets need. I can see it now...JD puts confidential feelers out, Gase gets the ship righted, and then boom, someone leaks to the media that JD contacted him about possible interest in the Jets' HC job, the media goes crazy, Gase and JD have a falling out, the team splits into two camps, the Johnsons fire JD and let Gase run the whole show.
I think the Jets will be the best head coaching opportunity out there next season. Lots of draft picks and cap space, big media market, solid GM, and if this season doesn't ruin Darnold, a good young QB already on the roster. I can see McDaniels finally leaving New England to take that job.
Christopher Johnsons so inept that i could see him bringing in Hue Jackson or Chip Kelly..The guy has no clue what hes doing...
Normally I'd agree with this statement, but the D was awful from the 1st snap to the end of the first half, of the first game. They shouldn't be gassed then. The Bills just walked through them in that period and they actually got better. The Jets got a couple of breaks otherwise the Bills could have put up 30+ in the half.
Mosley hurt us, Avery hurt , Gregg Williams did his best with alot of mediocre players, Mayes and Austin stood out to me
I don’t care if the next HC is an offensive mind or defensive mind but he damn well better be the best leader out there.
Until Chris Johnson (Football Savant) abandons this Org chart that doesn't work for the Jets, I have no faith that any HC can come in here and make a difference. He's gonna have to trust JD to make the right choice and have the authority to hire and fire as he sees fit. Perhaps hiring a VPFO to oversee yet another rebuild would be a good idea. Maybe elevating JD to that position, letting JD hire a GM and let that GM hire his HC might be the answer.. Why? Lets face it.. nothing else has worked until now..
I agree with this provided that he recognize how awful our talent is on offense overall, and at the skill positions on both sides of the ball in particular, and not lobby only for D players ala Rex. In the next two offseasons the Jets absolutely must upgrade both the starting talent and depth at WR, add an elite edge rusher, add a topnotch CB, complete the OL rebuild, add a very good RB who is a HR threat from anywhere on the field who is about as good a receiver as he is runner, and add a starting caliber ILB who excels in coverage and can rush the QB. The new HC needs to pay attention to all three units, and not just the one where his background/expertise lay.
I agree that JD needs to be put in charge and the org chart needs to be changed. I agree (and have for the last 2 years) that we need a VPFO. I don't agree with kicking JD upstairs yet. At least right now, I want him to serve as our GM for the next 15-20 years (he's 44 now), then move him upstairs to VPFO. By that time, he can have groomed several potential candidates to takeover as GM just as Ozzie Newsome did with the Ravens.
I have now jumped on the "FIRE GASE" bandwagon. I understand that we had no preseason games, neither did the other teams, but this team was so UNPREPARED to play and it's unacceptable. A total disgrace that makes us the laughing stock of the league. It starts at the top. The Johnsons are not football people, they're baby power people. I am tired of supporting this team day in and day out only to see NO HEART OR EFFORT on the part of a team I love. This relationship is toxic and it's slowly coming to a break up if this team doesn't make changes. Our hopes are built up every year only to be dashed on the first game of the season. This cannot continue. I believe JD is the right man to build this team but Gase is not the one to lead it. Gase has to go. He's ruining Darnold's career and the hopes of Jets fans. Anybody but Gase!
I haven't heard the results of the later games, but I don't think any team looked as unprepared or sloppy as the Jets did yesterday. During one of the CBS updates on the game they referred to the Jets as "hapless." Two of the teams who were supposed to be among the worst 3-4 teams, the Carolina Panthers and Jacksonville Jaguars, played well yesterday. Carolina actually led in the 4th Qtr. but their D couldn't hold the Raiders. Jacksonville won and Josh Allen wasn't even a factor. Gardner Minshew went 19 for 20 yesterday. He only threw for 173 yards, but threw 3 TD passes. Meanwhile Sam looked the worst he has as a pro. Not counting this week (I've thought they'd get blown out vs the Niners), I'm going to give Gase 3-4 more games to get things turned around in a big way, or I'm jumping on the bandwagon, and may even be willing to donate towards a billboard or plane with a "Fire Gase" banner.
I wanted McCarthy so bad, our oline would have been upgraded sooner and Sam would be looking so much better.
I have to disagree with you here, my friend. GB's OL has not been very good for the last 3-5 years. Some of that is due to players getting old or getting frequently injured, but Rodgers has taken a pounding over the last 2-3 years. Other than Davante Adams, their WR corps is nothing special. Jordy Nelson got old and was let go. Geronimo Allison, who made some big plays for them, is gone. One of the knocks on McCarthy was that his offense is so predictable and conservative. Things would probably be marginally better, and the team would at least have been prepared to play yesterday, but I don't think they would have been markedly better. The other thing to remember is that Gase played a role, perhaps a big one, in getting JD here as our new GM. If McCarthy was the hire, we could still be stuck with Mac, or I shudder to think who the Johnsons may have hired to replace Mac. I doubt that it would have been JD. With Mac still as our GM or some new incompetent boob as GM, it wouldn't have mattered how good our HC was.
No one wants McDaniels here. He already failed miserably once as a HC. Like most Belicheat disciples, once they leave Belicheat and NE, they are exposed.
let me start by saying i HATE the argument that you have to have a replacement before you can decide a guy needs to get fired. if a guy is doing a shit job or you simply have realized he will never get the team to the lombardi then its time for him to go regardless of who i think will replace him. there are tons of candidates every year to replace shitty head coaches. eric bieniemy would be my choice currently. he should have gotten a job the past 2 years. but for some reason teams have passed him over. sadly, i think the psycho manipulator gase will dupe the owner into giving him one more year regardless of what happens this year and we will miss out on the guy we should have gotten, again. as usual. in all reality it doesnt matter, the jets cant hire, theyve proven it over and over and over. hopefully the new gm goes against that grain. but ill wait and see.
