The Cardinals will not be looking for a new coach in 2021 btw. Lots of folks thought Gase was a better hire than Kingsbury. That was always a really bad opinion.
If that were to happen, it would most likely end my fixation/obsession with the NY Jets, and it should end everyone else's too. If that happens, this franchise is definitely cursed, and will never win.
From the collegiate ranks, it would definitely be Riley. From the NFL, it would probably be Bieniemy, unless someone better and more experienced became available.
Totally get this sentiment. I just hope the issue isn't that we have a shitty QB who appeared otherwise through glimpses of mediocrity.
After Rex and after Bowles , I wanted 2 things - an offensive coach and one with Head Coaching experience. I got what I wanted and was not happy, so I have no fucking clue. McCarthy fit the bill but we got Gase.
To answer the OP's question: how about a can of stick'em. Darnold hits 'em in the hands, the receivers drop it. D-line gets hands on Allen, he slips out of it. But it might be too early to think about new coaches unless the entire staff is opting out of the season. (Given today's performance, I don't blame any Jets fan opting out until 2021 or an ownership change.) Shit sure ain't roses right now. And, sure, Gase, Williams, and Darnold make their share of idiotic calls and shity execution. Don't get it twisted though, there's enough blame to go around.
Gase still has time to prove himself but if I was Douglas, I would get a short list of people I want to target this off season and try and put some confidential feelers out there. Start with 5. Mix of college and veteran NFL head coaches with PROVEN success. Not like Gase who hasn't proven anything. The odds are he won't turn it around but you want to make sure you have a plan in place. If he does, great. If not, we know what to expect.
I think a former head coach is as risky a prospect as getting a coordinator or position coach with no HC experience. They often bring the same problems that got them booted from their last head coaching job. I don't think we need to look for an offensive or defensive guru, or a QB whisperer, or a former head coach, or anything like that. They need to look for a guy who knows his players, how to use them, and how to adapt and adjust his system to fit the talent they have, regardless of his background.
It also helps that they signed one of the top receivers in the game to help out the young QBs development.
The next HC will just be another limp dick that isn't capable of forming an intelligent or even logical gameplan, isn't able to instill discipline in his players and is too scared to take any chance that might have to make him think on his feet. It's just an endless cycle of beta personalities for this team, except for one-trick Rex who was able to use smoke and mirrors to trick teams for 2 seasons. This dumbfuck team can't do anything right.
Are you serious? Joke, right? Mike MacMoron is still IMO the reason the jets sucked TODAY. I think that three of the highest paid jets this year will be Trumaine Johnson, CJ Mosely and Le'veon Bell. All the them were signed by MacIdiot for HUGE deals and done squat for this team! Bell in particular looks like he is running in cement and even when "healthy" should be deactivated before every game. Don't get me started on Mosely who bagged a $10 million ROSTER bonus in March 2020 and then sits out the season. Most selfish, greedy thing I have ever seen a player do. And MacCagnan's drafts--How's that number 3 overall for Q. Williams look? That and years of ignoring the OL. Not a coincidence that nobody has hired MacIdiot in the 18 months since the jets canned him. Not a surprise either that as of this writing you have not received one "like" for your post defending him.
I was highly critical of the Gase hire--but I tried to justify it from the CJ's perspective. Had someone who had HC experience, OC experience and worked with a elite QB. Had some success as a HC as well, well 1 year. It's becoming clear that he isn't cut out for the job. Since he's arrived, our young QB has regressed, offense has sputtered, he's clashed with our star players and he's shown a lack of awareness in games. This is the story. The downside is that he has a 4 year deal and he helped identify the GM--will that make it difficult to cut ties after year 2? Another angle is if we do draft another QB, are you really going to have Gase develop another QB if he's not here for the long term? So many more questions than answers for this team....
I agree name willaims the coach but fire gase, he is partly to blame for Adams as he was part of adams excuse same with robby. This team should have been better prepared I did not say win but better prepared the offense looked like crap and the gm and owner has to know the fans was not happy with the hire from the get go and it will lost them money in lost merchandise sales. Since gase was hired I have not brought one jet item. I think if more fans did the same and let the team know we are unhappy and this is what we are going to do (yes I am the idiot that emails the team to tell them crap like that)

Well, the Adams trade shows that he's flexible and willing to adapt to changing circumstances. I don't believe he'll have blind faith in Gase if the team looks the way it did today on a week to week basis. His 6 year deal should make his job safer than Gase's. Just like Gase was able to convince ownership that Maccagnan needed to be replaced, Douglas could do the same with Gase. And if we take a QB, I wouldn't trust Gase to develop him.
I would like to believe what you're saying and there's a chance. The smartest thing Johnson family could do is let Douglas have a shot to build this thing his way for 5 years and see what happens. He certainly has the credentials and respect of a great GM, so at some point you need to go all in on someone--might as well be the most qualified person in the room. Also, depending on the election, Woody could be back or not back and that could alter the course as well.
At this point no one should have any reason to believe that Gase would know what to do if he had one of the top receivers in the game.
