I was thinking the same thing. He certainly has acted like a captain this year. I wonder if his griping on Twitter about not getting enough touches cost him a captaincy.
Fant and Farley Hardly first team players or so you'd think or has Fant locked down the RT spot now? SMC was a shoo-in after that one Jets drive video
Yes, that was my mistake lol I was the one that said Farley when I replied to his Fant, been a long day today off the back of 3 hours sleep. Just about to start an auction draft on NFL.Com, it isn't going to be pretty
Fant and Farley were totally out of the blue. Have to say I don't even know who Farley was McLendon is the team leader. No surprise there. Elder statesman too. He'll probably join the coaching staff whenever he retires. Maye I've heard of as a lead by example type. Sam...really I don't know if he has that aura of a true team leader. I hope he earned that C rather than the staff just giving it to him and seeing how he handles it I was skeptical of the Fant signing but maybe this was part of it, good team leader and locker room guy
Every time a teammate talks about him, they mention just the aura you speak of and how much they respect it. So there's that.
Really? Honestly I have no idea Hope I'm wrong. Very wrong. Not to say he isn't focused and intense but...just wary of these California kids sometimes
I never heard it stated there was some debate before TC in here, I liked his videotape so hopefully he hits the ground running.
You must not have seen them, but every TC report I saw had the starting OL as Becton, Lewis, McGovern, Van Roten, and Fant.
Ah I see. Didn't know about the coaching staff not having a say in this (I personally feel they should) but if this is the way it's done then that's good that the players see Darnold as someone with leadership capabilities
Having Darnold, Maye, and McLendon as captains is not at all surprising, pretty much expected in fact. Farley is neither surprising nor expected, as he is a special teams captain and unless you have a long term guy in that position you really never know who it will be. Fant is a little surprising, but in a good way. I would imagine the rest of the team likes his way of going about things. Small school UDFA switching positions as he entered the league, to eventually get $9mm a year probably is inspirational to some degree.
