The four most important players in Greg Williams' defense are the two inside linebackers, the nose tackle and the strong safety. We just lost two pro bowlers (in two of the four most important positions). I hate to say it, but this defense is going to suck.
I will definitely accept it, but that doesn't mean I have to like it. I didn't say it was his fault that he got injured, and I'm not mad at him. I can't blame him for sitting out, but still I don't think he should be paid, but if the owners were dumb enough to ok that, that's their problem. I don't really think he'll come in fat next year, but will he work to stay in top shape for the next year?
Idzik was terrible. But Mac is even more of a punchline than Idzik, especially considering Idzik has a job in the NFL and Mac doesn't.
I can guarantee he won't opt out because of Covid, this is the guy who left his wife in labor so he could meet with Peyton Manning.
Why all the hand ringing? Look whether you agree or disagree with the decision, it is his to make. I can relate because my pecking order in life has been God, Health (those two are required for sound body and mind), family and work coupled with Quality of life... When I was younger, I was slated upper management (was working 12-14 hours days daily and sometimes weekend - w/o travel to and from work)... As a result, my youngest son asked me once, "when are you going to be home." I responded in the old harry Chapman song, we'll get together son soon...but not now (my paraphrase). When he asked again I knew what i had to do... I took a job for a lot less income and prestige so I could be with my family. I have never regretted that decision or even played the what if game about where I would have end up... I believe i am exactly where I am supposed to be...just ask my wife... On second thought, maybe you shouldn't...LOL. I hope this little excursion puts things into perspective for us FANS. BTW, IMHO our D last year was done with smoke and mirrors and we end up I think rank 10... or there about. I think we will be fine, the LB core is solid, DB seem better, we have the same DL players and if Huff gives us anything at all on the OS, then we should have a decent D.
On a positive note, we get CJ for an extra year. We put one of our best players on ice for the covid season which means he'll be super fresh and un-injured for our SB run(s) in 21,22,23.
You think Mahomes is all that? LOL. What if Joe Douglas pulled off a trade for Mahomes in exchange for Sam Darnold, Mekhi Becton, and Denzel Mims. We'd trade QBs plus toss in 2 rookies who haven't taken a single NFL snap. Would you do it?
He's a young, healthy, fit man. His risk is extremely low. Why is he opting out? Is there someone in his family who is high risk?
