Saw this. Love the bravado but he's in for a rude awakening when he gets his first taste of Northern Jersey...
“I was very scared. I wasn’t familiar with the whole city and it was a lot going on,” LMAO Guess this is one player who we dont have to worry about driving the wrong way in the tunnels.
He was born, raised and played high school football in a town with a population of 2,500 people (2010 census but still). He then went to school only 3 hours away. Any big North East city would probably be an anxious nightmare for anyone visiting for the first time. Even if you consider Dallas - the population is about 200k less, but about 2.5 times bigger in square footage. Playing for the Jets - he pretty much can maintain a more small town feel living in the outskirts of Bergen (Paramus, Short Hills, Englewood, etc.) and never having to go into a big city. Could've done the same thing in Philly but you can't exactly avoid the bigger cities going to the stadium.
True, but I wish that he hadn't made those comments. The first time he plays in Philly they will boo and harass him unmercifully. Hopefully, that's all they do. If there's snow in the stands, they may pelt him with snowballs.
Eh this is a big fat nothingburger. Philly fans harass and boo everyone. If Joakim Noah doesn't care neither should Mims or us.
While it's true that Philly fans harass everyone (even Santa Claus), there's no point in asking for it. Besides, I thought it made him sound like a wimp. A big strong football player saying he felt afraid in the big city. I don't care if he did grow up in a small town, that's a small mind.
You're reading into it too much. This is still a kid and a kid who was playing video games. He didn't have a press conference to say what a dump Philly was. It's pretty harmless. Big strong football players get anxiety too.
I don't know about that but their cheesesteaks are da bomb. I was there last summer around July 4 weekend and the summer before I would go again this summer if not for well you know. I wasn't blown away by the city but I wasn't offended either with that said I haven't seen all there is to see yet. I could see how passionate they are about their Eagles which I can respect. I did see some questionable characters around the famous cheesesteaks joints which surprised me but I can't say I felt "afraid" then again I'm a NYer and not a hick like Mims.
It was a stupid thing to say. Other than the fact the Jets have never beaten the Eagles in a game that counts Philly has nothing to do with the Jets. He insulted the home of millions of people why? He was afraid of Philly he should take a tour of Crown Heights or the Bronx in his new home of NY or heck even good ol' Hempstead out here on the Island.
I already have received my Mims Jersey via fedex. I will wear it proudly down here in south Jersey....more Philly fans than NY fans since we're closer to Philly. My boss was raised in Philly, & is a big Philly fan, AT LEASE WHEN THEY WIN, otherwise a silent fan,, I hate Philly & every thing about there fanbase....Go Mims!
