pretty cool they just did a live interview with Joe Namath, and got a few of his thoughts on how he felt leading up to, and in the game.

The Colts had so many opportunities early. It could have easily been 10-0 Baltimore. They did not cash in, and the Jets took advantage!

Had that game been played these days with the same situation at the end - the Colts would have attempted a FG on that last fourth down. That could have made it 16-10 with another onside kick attempt.

Of course I’m glad they didn’t ....lol.

Imagine if TGG existed back then and we had a game thread.

I'm so sorry I missed this! Did they show the entire game with all of the funky commercials? Someone from my old tailgate that Woody the Cheap Skate broke up with the advent of The New Dump had access to original videotaped copies of the actual broadcast. I'm not sure how he got ahold of it. It wasn't legal, though, lol.

Did they colorize it and enhance the scoring? On my tv it was in black and white and the Score was 16 to 7.

There were no original commercials on this broadcast. There were a few zoom interviews between Namath and the narrator - the face of the re broadcast ( don’t remember his name ) - the video copy you are referring to is on utube though.

Ha, times have changed. This was around '99 or '00. A guy who knew a guy who knew another guy had access to NFL Films and pirated a master copy, which he could have gotten arrested for. He went on to copy thousands of them, for about $100 a pop.

We had the VHS playing on a TV out of the back of our buddy's car. Every time the Jets got a first down we shouted, "Fck you, Tagliabue!" - and we and drank up. It was mostly because it rhymed and everyone was half in the bag. Oh, and did I mention it was illegal? We had this big displaced sense that we were somehow sticking it to the NFL, haha.

Watching the game for the first time in awhile, the Jets really played similar to Rex Ryan's philosophy. Thus, he got the philosophy from this Jets team with his Dad coaching. Ground and pound, play it conservative and safe, and have your defense dominate. That is what happened and why the Jets won. The Colts self destructed and shot themselves in the foot many times. The problem for Rex, is his dam always broke. The Jets D could never quite get the job done. Could be because his Jets ran into Peyton Manning and Ben Roethlisberger, while the 68 Jets ran into Earl Morrall, who had an extremely bad day, and an injured Johnny Unitas. That style worked back then, but it does not quite work in the modern NFL as Rex's Jets showed, the Jaguars showed, and then this year's Titans showed.

LOL yeah the NFL took copyright laws seriously back then - nowadays with all the technology and of course utube it’s easier to find old games posted for free. After a while the NFL has them taken down but they’ll usually reposted quickly.

The further we go along more and more old games pop up from the late 70s through the early 90s. These are usually from people who taped the original broadcast. They do what your friend’s friend did - make a whole bunch of tapes and sell them (black market). NBC was known to discard their broadcasts - particularly games with not much importance ( cough cough 1970s Jets ). CBS hung onto a lot of their broadcast footage. ABC MNF usually more so.

I am still waiting for the day somewhere in this country when an old timer dies - football fan - his children clean out the attic or basement - and find a strange looking video type thing - whatever they looked like in 1968 - bring it into their local video store to transfer - wala the Jets 1968 AFL Championship broadcast - in color !

    Wouldn’t that be quite a find ??
