https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.c...-to-kyle-long-about-coming-out-of-retirement/ This is just all sorts of bad. He hasn’t been healthy in years and when he’s played he hasn’t been good. Didnt we learn last year?
He was elite level prior to last season but does have an injury history. it depends on the circumstances. If hes coming in for dirt cheap to compete, how can it hurt? If its the same deal as Kalil where hes immediately assumed to be the starter, its downright idiotic
Hes been on a steady decline for years. I just read that he hasn’t played more than 10 games in 4 straight seasons. Just seems like a huge waste of camp reps instead of giving them to a guy like Clark who can play across the interior.
Clark is likely gonna need a yr or at least part of a season to become a factor. Think it boils down to the philosophy theyve already undertaken which is what Indy & Buffalo have used to rebuild OL.Bring in a bunch of experienced spare parts w upsid who fit scheme, let them compete & start the best 5. it definitely depends on the circumstances. If hes simply a potential stop gap money saving replacement for Winters within the competition im fine w that. If he gets a big deal & is immediately starter its dumb & speaks to a bigger problem
Kyle Long went to the pro bowl when Adam Gase was offensive coordinator for the Bears. That was also Joe Douglas’ one year with the Bears. I’m sure both are high on him. It could be an experience thing as well, since there are a number of younger guys who wouldn’t hurt for some veteran leadership. I have a feeling if this were to happen, Winters would be gone.
There is also the case that the Jets pulled Kalil out of retirement after his 12th NFL season. If Long were to sign, he has only gone through 7 seasons.
I agree with this under the same premise that Winters is cut. The Jets should only have room for 1 aging G with an injury history (Long,Winters,Warford). I think we learned that lesson from last years Mess. We have some depth at G already too.
Chasing after any Metha rumor is often an indicator that the opposite is true. JD is probably going in the other direction.
W all respect to the Warford crowd,he doesnt fit the team’s scheme & doesnt really fit w the entire movement the OL has undertaken this offseason.
Ok, Douglas is overkilling the OLine. We still need a wide receiver and why is he entertaining the process of adding OLine when he hasn't cut Winters yet. Warford would be the move here if you want another lineman.
Kurt what do you think of Van Roten? And McGovern? maybe you weighed in when they signed but I didn't see
Mcgovern is a solid player.Van Roten im not familiar w.Was excited to see alot of younger OL w starting experience w minimal penalties.Granted Van Roten is alittle older
