Because we have people that are supposedly ready to start in Desir, Wilson, Poole, and Austin. And backups Hairston, Maulet, etc. Again signed Ryan only pushes rookies off the team and we don't give them time to develop. Not to mention he is best in the slot but we have Poole. On the outside the other 3 are both probably better.
Still not signed yet? It's as if Manish Mehta is a hack who just wrote an article on pure speculation that he believes has a chance to eventually happen due to the Jets' need in a CB and Ryan's lack of options this late in FA. Shocking.
I'm on the fence with this one. He may be better than what we have, but he is also probably 2 years past the typical CB's prime, and was ranked like sixty-something last year. He's probably a year or two away from the "CB cliff" that we all saw Revis drop off.....and Bailey as well. Corners tend to drop off really fast once they start to, almost year-to-year. I think he's a decent add for the right price, but not for any big money. I don't think Douglas will be inclined to overspend on him anyway though.
just saying (and i don't know enough to say if this is actually a good idea) but Adams, Poole and Ryan may get more sacks than our DL Just spit-balling ideas but that might give the opponent (and QB in particular) an extra wrinkle to worry about
Still say Dennard is a better fit! He could be had for 3-4M per, plays outside AND inside and is 28. Neither are long term answers but you cant have too many corners. Especially ones with position flexibility
Win/win for Manish. If Logan signs he had the “scoop” all along. If not, he gets to write articles about Jets incompetence.
I agree with you, we have enough CB's and signing Logan will only have us drop a young CB and waste a pick that we have just used on Hall and Wilson, how many of them do we need to sign in one fell swoop. The position is already improved on last year, a traffic cone would have been an improvement on Tru J if we are being honest. We may as well spend the money on a WR or on Golden at least that is still a position of huge need, despite the promise a couple of these new guys have shown on film.
For sure we and edge are both much bigger holes. Seems pretty stupid to keep signing and trading for cbs when we are a lot stronger there than at receiver and edge. If you take into account he's best in the slot where we already have Poole its completely dumb.
I believe Trumaine Johnson is still counted since he is going to be cut effective 6/1, when 6/1 hits that number will jump $11M to $26M, less cost of signing draft picks of approx. $10M leaves about $16M. They may not have some other contracts entered yet though, I think if you figure on $9-$10M left after the rookies are signed would be a safe estimate.
We have a killer sch this year. If Ryan would be better THIS YR than Hairston/Maulet then bring him in. If we lose a young DB, well, then we lose a young DB. But if Ryan puts Josh Allen on his ass with a corner blitz or INT's the Stidham kid in NE, then hell ya!
