Cap space, something we don't have a lot of.

    You "sign this beast"
Other poster "Clowney, sign this beast whatever the cost"
another poster "We need Vet WR's Sign those beasts"
Even more other posters "Williams, Golden, sign all these beasts now"

I think we have 25m or so cap space, mind we do seem to have a lot of dross in our squad including 3 WR's I hadn't even heard of and 3 RB's that haven't seen the field either.

pretty sure Warford's numbers were similar to Winters's

prime example of what makes winning teams win. They were getting a probowler for 7-8 mill, we had Winters

One thing that has me confused is how is it they couldn't trade him during the draft or otherwise. They drafted another interior lineman in 1st round as a replacement

So while i really like the idea of swapping Winters and Warford I'd be a bit worried about some backstory of injury or otherwise (thinking about Osemele)

He was due to make $7 mil and they just drafted Cesar Ruiz who most people thought could be a day 1 starter at G if not C. I wouldn’t look into it much further than that honesty. If we can sign him for the exact same amount of money Winters is making, we have to do it. Don’t even think twice.

Hes pretty decent when healthy. Health has been an issue but come on.

Funny thing is with a Warford the headbutt is a OL with a mean streak that we love. With a Winters its just a penalty.

$7 mil is nothing, I would certainly look into it. He wasn't cut to clear way for Cesar Ruiz.

He had a down year and the Saints just drafted someone that plays his same position for millions less that will be under contract for 4 years. He’s still a three time pro bowler that has been highly above average for the majority of his career. That’s more than you can say about Winters. It’s a no brainer.

they only had like 4 mil in cap space and need 2 mil to sign their draft picks

Also a few of their stars are coming up for extension. Ruiz was drafted to start as well

The salary cap is directly linked to the NFL’ profits. Guys like Clowney should have signed earlier, and Warford could suffer as a result of the COVID-19 effects. If teams want to reduce the risk of being over the salary cap in 2021, they will not be eager to sign additional players at this time. Just a guess though.

They just drafted Cesar Ruiz in the first round to replace him.

Ruiz is an unknown , Warford is a Pro-Bowler ... just seems odd to me.
I can understand $ being a factor but PB O-lineman are worth their weight in gold .

Totally agree with your concern. I'm all for upgrading the Winters spot if the numbers are reasonable. But for 7-8 million for NO not to retain a pro bowler one more year? draft selection or not smells a little to me. If he is healthy we should jump all over it, but we can ill afford another cluster fuck move like Osemele. JD I'm sure will do a lot more due diligence and a lot smarter thinking before pressing the button unlike his sorry ass predecessor. Also he might be weighting another potential move, so who knows what he is thinking. On the surface however, it almost looks too good to be true to swap Winters for Warford.

Cut Winters, use that 7M + a little extra to sign Warford. It's a no brainer move for Joe Douglas.

I think he's going to be a Jet.

Here what your saying and if he was a probowl tackle I think they'd have kept him
They obviously don't like the idea of paying a guard or 2 gaurds(Peat as well) big money but the more I actually think about it could be risky like you say(Osemele was apparently a no brainer to)
But my initial instincts or still to snap him up and cut Winters

Yep, just have to talk Warford into coming here. I am sure he will have some options.

If this is true then I’m all for the pickup, Faneca was a great signing and helped Jets tremendously.

Did anybody think about Le'Veon Bell in this equation? The amount of money we pay Bell? Brian Winters played OG last year for us. How'd that work for out for Bell? Warford is several rungs up the ladder in terms of run blocking by comparison. I say 3yr $21 million. $15 mil guaranteed.

George Fant just got 3 yrs 30 Mil, with almost half of that guaranteed, and he wasn’t even a starter.

What makes you guys think Warford will sign for only 7M coming off 3 pro bowls?
