I’m very familiar with uva ... hall broke up so many passes last year that teams just stopped looking his way this year. This guy is a complete ball hawk with good size/speed. Uva stupidly had him playing special teams and he broke his ankle when he got rolled up on while blocking. It was a shock when hall came back for his senior year. He had a 1-2 grade last year ... I was vouching for him in the third.
Legit SHOCKED he lasted until the 5th. Dude was a potential late 1st, or day 2 pick but the ankle dropped him it seems. He doesn’t have blazing speed but dude can cover his ass off. this is the difference between Joe D and our other GM’s. I believe Izdik took McDougle in the 3rd round coming off knee surgery who didn’t have nearly the profile or acumen that Hall has had in career. You get way more value if a guy like this is around in the 5th.
Pre-Draft Analysis Hall, a team captain and three-year starter, has the frame, length and playing speed to develop into an effective press corner. He closes well and limits production after the catch in off coverage. He is high cut with below-average change of direction, and he gets grabby at times. Yes, In 2014 Idzik took McDougle as a high 3rd round pick when NFL.com had McDougle mocked as the very last selection of the 7th round. Idzik and MacCagnan wasted 7 drafts for the jets.
I give Joe D first Jets draft a B+. Talented and character guys. Next year he can fine tune it but right now trying to change the culture.
I think this pick may end up becoming the best pick of our draft. If it wasn't for his injury, he would have gone in the first 2 rounds, for sure
