The more and more I read about this kid, I am actually quite pleased/happy. I really wanted a Wills, Wirfs, or one of the WRs, but this dude is a monster of a man. At worst, he is RT ready and will just be a mauler in the run game. However, if he can improve a little bit with his technique and develop, we can have something serious here.

I think Parcells said something about how people on Earth with that size and speed are few and far between. Lets hope we have our LT for the next 10.

A whole lot of make up flags coming his way this season.
That was a trend in the free agents we signed also. Low penalties, Joe has a type

I dislike Gase as much as you I think he is living offof Manning and having a HOF QB , but the gm picked the olineman that has the much upside can and has played on the left side and fits into how they plan on playing...for the first time 3 yrs a first round pick that fits the mold of the way they play or want to play.
If gase goes I think jD is smart enough to get players or keep the same scheme ni place

I hope this man is addicted to pancake blocking two-or-more opponents per snap. And furthermore, I hope he does not conquer that particular addiction.

    Love the pick.

I would stick him at RT to start and see if Fant is the guy for LT.

If the jets can land Sims/Higgins/Claypool at #48, it would be an absolute homerun.

totally agree. long arms are tough for benching, but everything else being equal great for deads

also BP is so over-rated as a proxy for functional strength, and if they wanted it as a proxy of strength at all they'd test like a 3 or 5 rep max. 20+ reps on anything is more of a test of endurance and slower twitch fibers

Hopefully, he won't block Darnold's view of the field.

Hold on now. Addiction? You hope it’s to food or something and not booze. I’m assuming it’s not the hard stuff since he would have been tested for it. Everything’s fine. Everything’s fiiiiiiine. Right?

i don't watch college football so didn't have any personal ranking among the OT but happy with the pick for a number of reasons

    no penalties
guys is naturally huge, long arms
    fast
highlight reel (yes, i know...) he was blowing people out of the picture; that's the impose the will part

    strategically makes sense because
    JD should know OL best
from all accounts there will still be quality WR in rounds 2 and 3

Now we need to see if he translates on to an NFL field. A lot of people liked Wirfs but he's one of the huge risks in my book, great athlete but does he translate. Take a look over the years about just how many combine wonders seriously under perform at NFL, classic fools gold

How big is she?! He's 6'7 she doesn't look much shorter than him. She must be huge.

OT was a very interesting position in this draft with 6 taken in first round.
9 months ago Thomas was considered hands down the best NFL ready. Since then he has been up and down the board and some even had him 4th OT taken. Goes full circle and to the Gmen.
In December I mentioned wanting Wills for the Jets and several posters thought I was crazy and he was not even on any teams radar as a top pick, he ends getting picked 1 spot ahead of us.
Some loved Wirfs and had him going top 5 others had him at the bottom of the class.

I don’t think any team drafting a tackle made a bad pick. There may be a bust or future HOFer out of the group but most likely they will be splitting hairs as solid top end anchors for their respective teams.

I know everyone is concerned about protecting Sam, but what excites me about Bechton is he is a mauler in the run game and good run game makes every QB better.

Gotta hope for the best that's all we can do at this point.

Physically he's a freak of nature gotta hope he has all the intangible qualities to put it all together at the NFL level.

Eventually one of these gambles has to go in the Jets favor.

I was a little worried that we were trending towards smaller althletic lineman for the coach’s scheme, considering I don’t think Gase will last beyond this season.

Becton is the type that can play power man or zone tho, and really upgrades our size on the line.
I also think he can play either T spot which we need big time.

Has some question marks, but Douglas knows linemen and emphasizes character, so that makes me feel good about him selecting Becton even over Wirfs.

Let’s hope we got our Jonathan Ogden. Another massive lineman, Baltimore’s first franchise pick and HOFer.

I was pulling for one of the WR's. However, of the 4 top OT's, I'm glad they got Becton. In football, size matters. I can't imagine being an opposing DL and having this guy line up across from me. PR's may get around him, but they'll have to go into the next county to do it, giving Sam a bit extra time.
