This guy has bust potential mostly because of his size--injuries and conditioning. He also has hall of fame potential. Worst case scenario is you move him to right tackle.
Couldn't agree more. The best case scenario was that more than one OT would fall to him, enabling him to pick the one he graded better.
Becton has that nastiness that a recently drafted OL had. And yes they are totally different players and different sizes but they way Becton and the Colts G Quentin Nelson finishes on run plays just makes me giddy. He’s also very stout as a pass protector, he doesn’t hold. He’s very athletic. This kid has special potential to be ELITE. You can teach him technique to get better but that nasty streak, you can’t teach it. This line overhaul is complete. Becton, Lewis, McGovern, Van Roten, Fant. Very athletic line with Becton having the nastiness this needs, the smarts of McGovern and the veteran leadership of Van Roten. Time to kick other teams asses in the trenches. I’m tired of getting our ass kicked down there. Gotta love it!
I am a Louisville fan who has been following Mekhi’s career closely for the past 3 years (he has started since he was a freshman). In that time, Louisville has had a few high round impact guys taken in the NFL- Lamar Jackson, Jaire Alexander among them. We have also had a couple guys over drafted, probably Geron Christian most recently. In my opinion, Mekhi will be a better pro than any of them. Even as a freshman on a team with Lamar and Jaire, Mekhi seemed like the best pro prospect. I really have never been more confident in a prospect’s success than I am with Mekhi. I think the Jets have picked a future Hall of Fame left tackle. You can believe me now, or pretend you always believed me after he’s made it clear he’s a once in a lifetime player.
Great pick, and only 3 years late. I like the idea of big guys imposing their will and punishing the defense. That's what I'm hoping to see out of this pick.
Coach this kid up and make sure he has the right people around him and is focused on his conditioning. His ceiling is absolutely elite, but the Jets better invest heavily in him too to get the absolute best out of him. Going to require having the right football culture in place. The right veterans around him
This guy is going to be the best offensive lineman we've drafted since Vladimir Ducasse! Who could not love this pick??? CHAMPIONSHIP!
If Cushenberry or Henessy are there in round 2 it wouldn't surprise me one bit if we go line again. Then you have Becton, McGovern, Cushneberry, Winters/VanRoten, Fant
I don't think we need another lineman. Maybe a last round prospect. Edoga will be moved inside hopefully as a backup. Lewis, Van Roten, and all the other will compete for guard spot. Our center is set. Honestly ok going with our o line as is. Add a few project players later. Get us 2 wrs and some defense. Would like to see WR, CB/Edge, WR, RB. Then oline, Kicker, Punter, or QB with the last 3.
I'd still be down to bring back Beachum on a cheap flier to provide depth. If Becton has growing pains (would be understandable, happened to D'Brickashaw) and Fant can't hang we are in the exact same spot as last year. Plus someone is bound to get hurt. Beachum was probably our best lineman last season and not a word about him in the news this offseason.
