Worst-Case Tackle Scenarios

Discussion in 'Draft' started by joelip, Apr 14, 2020.

  1. To me, unless Becton falls, passing on the “big 4” is the right move. That means either taking one of the top 2 WRs or trading down a few spots for Jones. If Wirfs is the pick ill have my issues but will understand the fit & the upside.

Would lean toward the trade down for Jones w the understanding that the next selection has got to be a WR.We cant afford 2014 to happen all over again where we wait too late to take a WR in a loaded class & end up w Jalen Saunders & Shaq Evans.

Not scared at all of waiting till round 2 for OL if necessary. Multiple OL & WR need to be taken in this draft. The order doesnt matter but for talent/scheme optimization.

Sorry, but your math is off. The Jets currently have 4 picks in the first three rounds. If they trade down for an additional third, that gives them 5 picks in the first three rounds. You then say, the bolded, and that adds to 6 picks (2 WRs, 2 OL, Edge and CB = 6).

I stand corrected with getting a little excited citing 6 positions, thanks for pointing it out but regardless they ll have 5 picks in the first 3 rounds which can imo be huge

No sweat. I'd rather have 6 picks than 5. Wish you had been right!

I agree we need two of each out of this draft. Two tackles and two wide receivers.

Becton pissed dirty. He is going to fall. There’s now effectively 3 OTs in tier 1.

I don't think he'll fall at all. Unless I'm mistaken under the new CBA, the NFL isn't even going to test for it any more, or if they do, they're not going to punish players. It's now a non-issue in the NFL.

Ladies and gentlemen, we have our first negative rumor. Anyone have a photo of Wirfs wearing a gas mask?

    From my understanding. Not quite.

From what I just read, if seems that anyone who tests positive for marijuana has 60 days to clean up, if they piss clean, they are removed from protocol as if it never happened.

If they fail after the 60 days, obviously, consequences.

This will likely cause pause for teams still.

Would you draft mekhi if he was there at 11? How is your Top 4 OT?

Don’t care about the weed. I do however care that he has been described as lazy in the past, that doesn’t at all fit the type of players JD has been said to be looking for.

He wouldn’t be off my board completely but I’d certainly rank the WRs higher if he was the last OT left and I’d also prefer trading down to select a T like Jones or Cleveland over drafting Becton at 11. Hoping he goes earlier.

The laziness was supposedly in 2018, and was only one analyst, so I probably shouldn't have even mentioned it, because I read that he worked hard, and every analyst said that he had improved a lot this past season. That doesn't happen without work.

Still, the weight is a concern, and whether he will continue to work hard or if he'll decide to coast once he gets a big payday. I think he will work hard because he plays with a bit of a nasty streak, and those types usually like to dominate. He'll have to work hard to be able to dominate in the NFL. I think his pride will take over.

The allure of trading down and adding a 2nd is becoming appealing to me.

i think the jets should trade down.....i would like to sneak into the second round again but we would have to include one of our own draft choices to do that. realize we have 2 thirds but i want the 2 seconds.

will be surprised if many trades happen cause of the situation.

At this point, I'm in the trade down in Round 1 camp. Of course, we're all speculating until we find out what substance Becton used. I love Lamb and like Jeudy and Ruggs very much. However, I also think that we can get a very successful NFL starter (possibly even a Pro Bowler) at 48. I like the idea of a huge, fast receiver (plus red zone target) to complement Crowder and Perriman (think Claypool or Pittman). The first round pick I think should be reserved for the best tackle we can get, as I don't think that the Round 2 tackles have much Pro Bowl potential (and this has been historically the case, no?).

I wouldn't accept a trade back from 11 without at least a 2nd in return.

This is where I am at. The Jets are so devoid of offensive talent (particularly at WR) that I can see why people want one of the top 3 WR’s at pick #11...

Still, I believe you can solve the WR problem by doubling down - selecting multiple WR’s in this draft. I like the idea of one speed (or route runner) guy and one large target for jump balls/redzone.

OT’s is a different story, there could be a starter available at pick# 48 (Cleveland?), but you’re playing with fire if you wait... it’s harder to find an OT vs WR. If Hopkins was an OT, he would never been traded...

With that said, I would absolutely love to see the Jets land a top notch WR and I also would love to see them land one of the top 2-3 RB’s in this draft. I think Bell is just an average back at this point. He has no ability to create on his own + lacks foot-speed... you draft one of these top backs and let them take over by next year.

So for me - one way I wouldn’t mind approaching -
    OT - rd. 1
RB - rd. 2 - whoever slips Dobbins, Taylor, Swift
WR - rd. 3 - could even entertain using both selections

I’m sort of tired seeing other teams load up on offensive skill/talent... Sam is the best talent on this team (imo), and the Jets have ignored offense for the last 5+ years. They draft 2+ defensive players with their top 4 picks and I might be done.
