Has Jordan Jenkins EVER had a high impact play that swung the course of a football game? Ever?

we watch all the Jets games here, we would know if he did.

    —-

I haven’t watched every game of Clowneys career by far and I can name 3 just last year for him. And it was supposedly a down year

the two players aren’t at all comparable

    Wrong.

You are right. Jenkins has been consistently ok his whole career. Not great, but good. Clowney has had 3 games per year. Only 1 good year his whole career. Every other is 3 games where he was above average. All other games he's either hurt or not playing for crap. He take plays and whole games off. Is completely inconsistent. That's why Jenkins is the better choice for us. You don't pay players for 3 games a year.

This makes perfect sense. At this point I just expect that the Browns will end up doing everything they are reported to stupidly do.

agreed. You're both buying high and selling low on the Yannick for QW line of thought. Yannick is good, no doubt, but you're paying top money for Exhibit A of "You can get a great player in round 3" See also D.Lawrence (for round 2). Of course some luck involved too but that's why you also want more draft picks

Maxx Crosby was taken in round 4.
Kevin Greene was taken in round 5.
Reggie White was taken in the supplemental draft.
It's not easy to get a stud pass rusher after the early rounds, but it can happen.

Of course, the ideal move is to simply grab a great pass rusher in the mid to late rounds of the draft, BUT...in addition to that requiring a GM that is really good at identifying talent, there's a lot of luck that goes into that too. The odds are stacked so high against this happening, it's almost like catching lightening in a bottle.

Maybe Douglas is that rare GM who really knows talent and the upcoming draft pool well enough that he can find a gem in the middle rounds. I hope so. And maybe he's waiting until after the draft to make a move on Yannick or Clowney if they're still available. I really don't care how he does it, but he needs to find a legit pass rusher either this year or next. I do think at the right price, trading for Ngakoue is the best option because he's prove and he's young and he fills a big hole for a number of years.

I would be ok with signing Clowney under one condition. If it is a one year deal. Give him the money he wants for one year, he is clearly not getting what he wants on the open market right now, so throw him whatever it takes to sign him to a prove-it deal. He will be motivated as ever, let him walk and sign some stupid long term contract with another team next year and next year our primary concern in the draft will be pass rusher, because it doesn't look like we are going to get our pass rusher this year either. A motivated-for-money Clowney would make this defense elite. I don't think he'll play at an elite level no matter how much we pay him, but he will definitely be a formidable presence that offenses will have to game plan for, and it will basically be a one year rental. Will he accept that kind of deal? I have no idea, but it seems he's not going to get the long term deal he's looking for, so why not give him a big one year prove it deal and let him walk afterwards and we'll address the pash rusher situation properly next year. I think a motivated Clowney makes us at top 5 defense this year.

I agree with most of your post, but I would suggest that the one year "prove it" deal have a team option attached. That way if he does make a huge difference they have the option of keeping him. The Jets aren't going to the SB in one year, and may not even make the playoffs, so why pay him a bunch of money for a year in which they're not going to win anyway, and then see him walk away? In essence they'd be given him the chance to increase his value and make it more expensive to sign him long term. I doubt that he would agree to sign a contract with a team option, but if he has no other offers for the money the Jets offer, he might agree.

True, that would be totally fine, although as you stated Im sure he would be after that big contract, especially if he played well, and Clowney just doesn't seem like the guy who, if he did have a great year, would replicate it again. However it couldn't hurt. And regarding how compettive we are, I usually overestimate us but I really think if Douglas nails this draft we should absolutely make the playoffs and might even be a little dangerous when we get there. I'm expecting us to have a good year this year if we hit right in the draft. I have been wrong many times before though.

agreed here are some of the top guys from just this past year. IN addition, a lot of the other first rounders weren't at the top of the draft and instead mid- to late-first round. Indeed some of those guys were a bit further down. I think it's a combination of factors including luck. Unpersuaded we need to spend 15+ million to generate a pass rush. Instead i think you just beg for a double team, in which case your team still complimentary players who would exploit that situation

    shaquille barret udfa
    danielle hunter 3d round
    za'darius smith 4th round
    preston smith 2d round
    juston houston 3d
