Why in the world would you want Douglas to use our 2nd round pick on a Safety? That is not a need.

Even if he can play nickel corner, that's not a need. While the draft isn't necessarily for filling needs, but adding talent, we have so many needs and holes, that I'm certain that we could get a player just as good, if not better, than Winfield, that would fill a need.

So many things wrong with this post. Yes, 40 years ago 4.7 was pretty fast. Largent is not the greatest WR ever Jerry Rice might have something to say about that. 4.7 today for WR you just don't see in the NFL. So you might want to update your logic.

When he wrote "the greatest NFL WR ever" he was referring to Rice who ran a 4.71 40 at the combine.

I get what you mean--I'm basing my assessment off of who realistically will be there, the safest picks and areas we could add depth. I really don't feel good about any pass rushers in this class except Young and Espenesa

I think a few mid round prospects in this class can have solid NFL careers. Curtis Weaver, Alton Robinson, Khalid Kareem, and Kenny Willekes just to name a few. AFAIK, none have the red flags Polite had last year.

Unfortunately I think Mims will be a first rounder. I want Pittman in the 2nd/3rd even if we get one of the 3 WRs in the 1st.

Another name to keep an eye on outside of all that were already mentioned is KJ Hamler. I can see the Jets being interested in him if they don’t draft Ruggs in 1st.

I understand. That's why I think the Jets should wait until next season to get their pass rusher, but what's that got to do with taking a S in round 2? IMO their top 4 picks should go something like the following:

    1) OT
    2) WR
    3a) CB
    3b) WR or OL

    or

    1) WR
    2) OT
    3a) OL
    3b) CB

    or

    1) WR or OT
    2) CB
    3a) WR or OL
    3b) 2nd OL or 2nd WR

. .I was not inferring that Steve Largent was "the greatest WR ever."

. .The obvious GOAT reference (which escaped you) was with respect to Jerry Rice.

. .So you might want to update your brain.

    ..
    . .Precisely. . Thank you. . .

Then why wasn't Rice in the post. The only receiver name I saw was Steve Largent

Imagine our receiving core if our first two picks netted Jeudy and Higgins.

Would Sam have time to throw to them? We'd still need an OT and a C/G.

Sam could be the next Andrew Luck. Great Idea. Let's make him retire next year.

I believe we're set at C with McGovern. He's better there than at OG. I believe that Van Roten is solid. If Winters stays on the team, I think the other OG spot will be fine with either Lewis or Winters, or maybe even a rookie.

I agree with your basic premise, however, that I don't think there's any way that Douglas would take WRs in both the 1st and 2nd rounds. Even if he takes Lamb or Jeudy in the 1st, I think he will take Prince Tega Wanogho, Ezra Cleveland, or Isaiah Wilson, Lloyd Cushenberry or maybe even Matt Peart in the 2nd.

If we get Trent Williams this could happen.

Do you think we're likely to trade for Trent Williams?

I think the Jets are in the final table per say, but with JD money talks. I do think he would give up a 3rd, but he won't give him 20M. He won't do what the Texans did and trade for a LT and not give him a contract.

    I don't think he'd give up a 3rd for a 30-year old LT who hasn't played in almost 2 years.

He did bring Ryan Kalil out of retirement. At most I think the 3rd is on the table, but I would prefer he trade a 4 and a conditional pick the next year depending on his play.

Personally I wouldn't give up a 3rd, but JD might.

True, but he didn't have to give up even a low draft pick for Kalil. He just had to give him money, and signed him to a deal where if it didn't work out, he could be released and it would't hamstring the cap going forward. I think the only reason he did that was the timing of when he was hired and he was desperate. He's not desperate now.

I think Douglas believes in his abilities in the draft and is wants to have as many picks as he can in the draft to stock the team with young talent. If I were in his place with his background, I'd sure bet on myself and want to prove myself in the draft. I wouldn't trade picks for players, especially older players.
