We brought back Poole and upgraded greatly at CB1. Did not see this coming at all. If Bless can be a competent CB2 and Maye can stay healthy... that secondary could be very formidable.
I'm not sure why we need a French porn actor as a cornerback. The Front Office is getting pretty desperate.
Legit starting corner. Austin , Poole and Desir isn’t bad. It’s pro level at minimum. A pass rush and G Williams pressure scheme will make it better.
I wonder why the Colts cut him though? Adding Rivers, they are clearly going to make a big push in 2020. I thought they had plenty of cap space, so I am not sure why he was released. Obviously an upgrade over Johnson or Roberts, but that is not saying much.
He was due $9 mil I think. Ended up saving $7 mil by cutting him. They had only about $10 mil in cap space after the Rivers signing. A lot of the Indy fans didn’t understand why the cut him.
Injuries played a role in him being cut I'm sure. Tough 2019, very good 2018. Got 3 corners that potentially could be above average to go along with Adams and Maye.
Fucking hell, I could have looked a right knowledgable bloke this morning, I wrote a list of CB's that were free agents and did a little summary on them but changed my mind and didn't post it, I had him down as a decent grab. Followed by Prince Amukamara, Bashaud Breeland or Ronald Darby. Ah well
Nice. I'm glad we found a stopgap and can allow Douglas to go try to find corners in the mid rounds and next years draft. So much better than signing Bradberry or another 26-27 year old corner for 3-4 years and $15 Milly a year. One and done with Desir is good enough to hold the position group over to figure out if Austin is for real and can stay healthy. And if Maulet can eventually take over in the slot.
Yeah Im thinking that’s exactly the plan....stopgap CB for 2020 - enough time for JD to analyze Austin and Maulet over a full season and whether those two are keepers. I also still think JD is drafting a CB around round 2 or 3. His hope is the draft pick is able to step in and replace Desir ( who will be 30 when the season starts ) on one side in 2021 and with any luck Austin is also the real deal.....
I don't think he has any Pro Bowl or All-Pro selections, but he's a really good #1 CB. To lineup opposite of DeAndre Hopkins like that, and during a playoff game; and completely eliminate Watson's favorite offensive weapon to only 5 receptions (10 targets) for only 37 yards (only 3.7 yards per target) and 0 TD receptions isn't quite "Revis shutting down a Manning/Wayne connection for 1 catch/1 yard like" but man, to eliminate Hopkins like that during a postseason matchup was a thing of beauty out of Pierre Desir. So happy we've got him because when healthy he may not be a Darrelle Revis but I'd say he's definitely a top 20 NFL starting #1 CB.
That’s some nice value. Although it worries me a bit that next year we’re going to be back to having no CB1 or slot considering the one year deals for both.
Let’s just hope one or both of them look good enough to Re-Up during the season... Also don’t forget about the draft!! Going to be interesting how we approach it but this seems to give us even more flexibility.
I love this signing. I learned my lesson from my boss @Cman65 - I never get too excited about a GM or a new HC before I see results but JDOuglas seems to be on the right track.
